 Four Thoughts on Matthew 6:9

Matthew 6:9 New International Version (NIV)

9 “This, then, is how you should pray:

“‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,

1. we are to pray "like this". therefore it is good to see to pray this prayer or similar prayers daily as per our Lord's instruction.

2. "Our" this prayer is not individualistic but rather corporate, it includes others and the body of Christ. We were never meant to live the Christian life alone. Our Lord surrounded himself with a Christian community for his 3 years of ministry.

3. "Father" we pray to the Holy Trinity but have a special emphasis towards God the Father. The scriptures speak of us as "children of God" and also us being a part of the "family of God"

4. "in heaven" this shows our worship and prayer on earth is towards heaven where God is on the throne. Our prayers and also christian gatherings should have that emphasis of being towards the throne of God (Revelation 4-5). Our gathering is unto "Him" and our prayers therefore are "unto Him" also.
