"Pilgrim and Sojourner." - 1 Peter 2:11

Online!
Modern English Version (MEV) has anyone used it?

Saints,

I was just curious if any believers have reviewed or used this bible translation. It seems it one of the only translations other then the KJV translation that uses the Textus Receptus.

"The MEV is a translation of the Textus Receptus and the Jacob ben Hayyim edition of the Masoretic Text, using the King James Version as the base manuscript."

Here is 1 Peter

1 Peter 1
Modern English Version (MEV)

Salutation
1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ,

To the refugees scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, 2 elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification by the Spirit, for obedience and sprinkling with the blood of Jesus Christ:

Grace to you and peace be multiplied.

A Living Hope
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has given us a new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an incorruptible and undefiled inheritance that does not fade away, kept in heaven for you, 5 who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. 6 In this you greatly rejoice, even though now, if for a little while, you have had to suffer various trials, 7 in order that the genuineness of your faith, which is more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tried by fire, may be found to result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ, 8 whom, having not seen, you love; and in whom, though you do not see Him now, you believe and you rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory, 9 receiving as the result of your faith the salvation of your souls.

10 Concerning this salvation, the prophets who prophesied of the grace that should come to you have inquired and searched diligently, 11 seeking the events and time the Spirit of Christ, who was within them, signified when He foretold the sufferings of Christ and the glories to follow. 12 It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you, concerning the things which are now reported to you by those who have preached the gospel to you through the Holy Spirit, who was sent from heaven—things into which the angels desire to look.

A Call to Holy Living
13 Therefore guard your minds, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 14 As obedient children do not conduct yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance. 15 But as He who has called you is holy, so be holy in all your conduct, 16 because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”[a]

17 And if you address as Father the One who impartially judges according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves in fear during the time of your sojourning. 18 For you know that you were not redeemed from your vain way of life inherited from your fathers with perishable things, like silver or gold, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. 20 He was foreordained before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for you. 21 Through Him you believe in God who raised Him up from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope might be in God.

22 Since your souls have been purified by obedience to the truth through the Spirit unto a genuine brotherly love, love one another deeply with a pure heart, 23 for you have been born again, not from perishable seed, but imperishable, through the word of God which lives and abides forever. 24 For

“All flesh is as grass,
and all the glory of man as the flower of grass.
The grass withers, and its flower falls away,
25 but the word of the Lord endures forever.”[b]
This is the word that was preached to you.

1 Peter 1:16 Lev 11:44; 19:2; 20:7.
1 Peter 1:25 Isa 40:6–8.

Doesn't look good.
Check out some of these verse comparisons.

 Re:

That website is pretty extreme (I don't know if it's your website..). They say (for example) that Billy Graham isn't saved. They are also KJV-only guys, so they don't believe any other bible is good and biblical.

With that mindset, you can find fault in every other translation. I would not use that website as my guide-line for what is genuine and what is false.

I am not judging them, but its hard to take it that serious when they write in such a judging way.

 Re:

We have been over KJV issues before so I avoid it here. The MEV is published by Charisma House. It is quoted frequently in Charisma magazine. It may be no better or worse than some other new translations. The emphasis of it by Charisma has made it suspect from day one, IMO. In terms of its reliance on the TR and Masoretic texts--ok. No issues there for me. But when it says it also relies on the KJV it begs a question of why. If KJV is a "base manuscript" for another English version, it strikes me as less of a translation than a commentary or interpretive work. We have plenty.

 Re:

Try to concentrate on the scripture comparisons and don't get sidetracked by the other things. I thought the scripture comparisons were very revealing and I did not let myself get distracted by anything else. I am sure there are other websites. Spend a little time and look around.

Greg, I bought a MEV and haven't found anything blatantly satanic about it. Purchase one for yourself and read it for yourself.

And about that website, the one that states the MEV is a satanic counterfeit, so just by that it is safe to know that they are a KJO website and it's safe to know that nothing that will appease them except a king jimmy, so there is a clear agenda to proves all thing not KJ.... satanic.

People fight over KJ vs anything not KJ but they completely forget that that for a minimum of 5400 years God led his people by the Holy Spirit through dreams, visions, angels, and His voice alone; EXACTLY what the KJ only people today say is fakery. Ironic, isn't it?

 Re:

What did anyone think about the verse comparisons? Or did you miss all of that? I have put them here so we can have a discussion on them and you won't be distracted by the other stuff. Do you think we can have a conversation comparing the scriptures, or is that a lost cause? For those who have studied cults and know how the Word is twisted, some of these verses have some far reaching ramifications.

KING JAMES BIBLE (KJB)—Romans 10:9, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”

MODERN ENGLISH VERSION (MEV)—Romans 10:9, “that if you confess with your mouth Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”

KING JAMES BIBLE (KJB)—James 5:16, “Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”

MODERN ENGLISH VERSION (MEV)—James 5:16, “So always tell each other the wrong things you have done. Then pray for each other. Do this so that God can heal you. Anyone who lives the way God wants can pray, and great things will happen.”

KING JAMES BIBLE (KJB)—John 20:17, “Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.”

MODERN ENGLISH VERSION (MEV)—John 20:17, “Jesus said to her, “Stop holding on to Me, for I have not yet ascended to My Father. But go to My brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to My Father and your Father, to My God and your God.’ ”

KING JAMES BIBLE (KJB)—Romans 13:1: “Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.”

MODERN ENGLISH VERSION (MEV)—Romans 13:1, “Let every person be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those that exist are appointed by God.”

KING JAMES BIBLE (KJB)—Romans 1:20, “For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse.”

MODERN ENGLISH VERSION (MEV)—Romans 1:20, “The invisible things about Him—His eternal power and deity—have been clearly seen since the creation of the world and are understood by the things that are made, so that they are without excuse.”

KING JAMES BIBLE (KJB)—Acts 7:29, “Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device.”

MODERN ENGLISH VERSION (MEV)—Acts 7:29, “Therefore since we are the offspring of God, we ought not to suppose that the Deity is like gold or silver or stone or an engraved work of art or an image of the reflection of man.”

KING JAMES BIBLE (KJB)—Colossians 2:9, “For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.”

MODERN ENGLISH VERSION (MEV)—Colossians 2:9, “For in Him lives all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.”

 Re:

Sorry, if you thought I was going down the KJV road.

I encourage everyone to compare. Think for yourself.

http://modernenglishversion.com/comparison/

In some ways SI reminds me of what is happening in Missouri with "Black Lives Matter", where certain discussions are railed against and therefore censored by a group of people.

Sad, that Christians in a forum can't discuss important issues in peace without being called names and then described in most hateful ways (and I am not just talking about Bible versions as you well know).

Love how the "agenda" card always get's pulled. Maybe, I will try that when I see discussions I don't like. Problem is, I am not built that way, and I let people work things out.

Is censorship what you really want here, because that's what you have.

Seems to me that the ones that have agendas are the ones that try to shut down discussions.

 Re:

The influence from Charisma types is clear in the James verse. I see no big problems with the Romans verse rendering. The use of deity for Godhead is likewise not concerning. The Greek theos there is simply a reference to the divine One. Or, God.
