Praay for People Grroup: Niyogi Brahmins in Karnataka

Niyogi Brahmins of Karnataka

Today's Devotional

2 Timothy 3:16, 17, NET "Every scripture is inspired by God and useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the person dedicated to God may be capable and equipped for every good work."

Originally this verse was weaved into today’s prayer entry about the Niyogi Brahmins; but it could be about any people group, including yours! We so easily forget that the Bible is God’s guidance for all of us. It shows us His ways which are for every tribe, tongue, nation, and people.

Pray that the Bible will become easily available to every Brahmin community in Karnataka. Pray that members of the Niyogi Brahmin community will take the teachings of the Bible as God’s clear and perfect teachings.—KC

Today's People Group

The Brahmins are the elite caste in Hinduism. This is especially true of the Niyogi whose name means “employed” or “appointed.” Strictly speaking, only Brahmins can be priests, and as such they usually are the main and major component of the Hindu priesthood. However, most of the Niyogi gave up their traditional religious vocations of priesthood and teaching Vedas and moved on to various secular vocations including military activities. Many of them are wealthy and influential. They are associated with administration, economics, literature, screen writing, film direction, politics, scholarly, scientific, and defense careers. Some are affluent farmers as evident by the large amount of farmland they own.
They blend their secular lives with some Hindu religious practices such as yoga, meditation, and vegetarianism. Many still try to follow and understand the principles of the Vedas (Hindu holy scriptures) in their lives. They support the idea that Hindus are encouraged to relate to God in the way that suits them best and select the deities to worship that they think gives them the guidance they need.

Pray that the barriers keeping the Niyogi Brahmins from the Lord will be broken so they will be able to know the Living Lord. Pray that God will prepare the hearts of the Niyogi to receive Him. May they come to be guided by Christ and His ways as written in the Bible.
