Today's Devotional

James 4:8, NLT "Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world."

It is a matter of wanting to come close to God. Those who do can come close to Him, but it must be on His terms. We need to first understand that our hearts are impure and divided.

Pray for the Rajputs in Karnataka to understand this basic spiritual truth.—KC

Today's People Group

(This story illustrates the beliefs of the Rajput peoples.)
“Once upon a time,” the father said, “there was a warrior clan, the sons of a king.” He paused and watched as his two young sons took this in. They had heard the story many times, but were always enraptured by it. He continued, “They ruled most of north India and even parts of what is now Pakistan. They were a truly great people. For quite some time they even had their own kingdom. It was called… ” “Rajputana!” the first boy shouted. The father nodded. “And in 1949 it became… ” He paused, allowing them to answer. “Rajasthan!” the boys said in unison. “Very good,” the father said, smiling. “But father,” one of them wondered aloud, “why don’t we live in Rajasthan?” “Yes, father,” the other asked, “why do we live in Karnataka?”
This simple question has a very complicated answer. While the Rajputs once had their own land and were a noble class dominating much of northern India, today they are spread throughout the subcontinent. Over a period of hundreds of years, the Rajputs slowly left the north, some of them choosing to settle in Karnataka. Here, they continue to be a high caste, often stubbornly rejecting the good news of Christ.

Pray for the hearts of the Rajput peoples to be soft and ready to accept the gospel. Pray for them to humble themselves before God and put their faith in Christ.
