| Re: | | Anne Askew:
Regarding Transubstantiation
When asked (during her torture) if she had ever said that a priest could not make the body of Christ, Anne reportedly said, "I have read that God made man; but that man can make God, I have never read, nor I suppose ever shall."
"Then they did put me on the rack, because I confessed no ladies or gentlemen, to be of my opinion...the Lord Chancellor and Master Rich took pains to rack me with their own hands, till I was nearly dead. I fainted...and then they recovered me again. After that I sat two long hours arguing with the Lord Chancellor, upon the bare floor...With many flattering words, he tried to persuade me to leave my opinion... I said that I would rather die than break my faith."
So on this day, poor Anne Askew (25 years old) was found guilty of heresy once and for all and sentenced to die by burning in roughly a month. Her story is a very sad one, as she is remembered and known for being a brave and passionate woman - the only woman to be tortured in the Tower of London for her beliefs. Torturing women was against the King's policy until Anne Askew arrived on the scene. |

| Re: Great Quotes 18 | | You are still in the world. You are still in the battlefield. You daily fight for your lives. So you must be careful, that . . . what you have begun to be with such a blessed commencement will be consummated in you. It is a small thing to have first received something. It is a greater thing to be able to keep what you have attained. Faith itself and the saving birth do not make you alive by merely being received. Rather, they must be preserved. It is not the actual attainment, but the perfecting, that keeps a man for God. The Lord taught this in His instruction when He said, "Look! you have been made whole. Sin no more lest a worse thing come upon you." Solomon, Sual, and many others were able to keep the grace given to them so long as they walked in the Lord's ways. However, when the discipline of the Lord was forsaken by them, grace also forsook them. Cyprian AD 200-258 _________________ Jonathan
