 poem: through the desert road

hi guys, just wanted to share a poem i wrote recently with ya'll. it's an exhortation for biblical unity and a return to the "old path" which i know is something near and dear to everyone on this forum. hope you're blessed by it :)

I have looked out onto a dry and weary land
as but a lonely grain lost in a vast sea of sand

littered with towering monoliths and grand looking structures
wowing the passersby but all just conjecture

a facade of fullness, a mere mirage of worship
in reality vain, empty, desolate, and worthless

for the shepherds have deceived the flock
the prophets have prophesied lies
for the gospel they do mock
and on greed they fix their eyes

for a pretense they make a show of their prayers
with loud shouts and cries lifting hands in the air

they speak lofty and great spiritual sounding words
when in fact they are only trying hard to be heard

not by God, but rather by men
not in true repentance, but all just pretend

for they like to quote scripture and mention Jesus Christ
but never preach the gospel or the reason why He died

why He lived and died and rose again
isn’t this the very purpose, the absolute end

of our existence and being
and praying and singing
the breath we are breathing
the life we are living

for people do not need “spiritual” things
of shaking and baking and so called “blessings”

no, what they, what I, what we need is Christ
to go back to the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ

not about spiritual warfare and trying to talk to the devil
or claiming empty promises and deeper spiritual levels

where do you find all this stuff in scripture
I mean the contextual, logical means of the mature

the pure doctrine and traditions handed down to us
from Christ to the apostles now entrusted to us

entrusted, I say!
entrusted!
the gospel…was…entrused…to…us

and what have we done with it
what have we done to it
the very means for our salvation
what have we done to it

we have turned it into a license for narcissism and licentiousness
about false prosperity, false destiny, false dreams and covetousness

glory clouds and glory explosions?
portals and drunken dispositions?

your best life now? You are a revivalist??
we are little gods??? And all this in the name of the Spirit?!?

the very things the gospel was supposed to save us from
like the dumb and mute idols we worship we have become

we’ve confused the flesh for the spirit and the spirit for the flesh
thinking that the miracles we experience are the ultimate test

of authenticity and biblical accuracy by which we are to discern
rather than actually reading the bible and knowing all its concerns

and this at the hands of those presuming to be preachers
this at the hands of those claiming to be shepherds

who like to go and yell “fire, fire, fire”
make absolutely clear what their hearts actually desire

power, glory, recognition, and fame
but we who honor them are all just the same

brothers, please listen and hearken unto my voice
who will you serve, here and now you must make a choice

for it says in the Word that false prophets will come
and even claim Christ and deceive more than just some

but even the elect if that were even possible
though you might think this is just totally improbable

that such days have yet to come, they are still far away
but it is nearer than you think, it is here now today

I plead with you dear brothers, open up your eyes
and look out into the land and see through the lies

let’s turn back to the Word and find the old path
in which is fullness of life and deliverance from wrath

the way clearly marked through the history of the ages
of which saints of old have walked and filled up its pages

that we may read and follow in like manner
taking up our cross and Christ’s glorious banner

though this desert road lead us through darkness and despair
my dearest brothers, we still have each other and our Father’s loving care

so join me as I make my way to the Celestial City
heart in heart, hand in hand, in truth and in unity

for I would not that I should come to it all alone
but you and I, we together, should one day make it home

so take my hand and come with me as I follow Christ
that we may join our faithful brethren unto eternal life
