Pat Kenney on Matthew

Pat Kenney on Matthew.
I have been fellowshipping at Calvary Chapel Escondido ( www.ccesco.com ), since I have been down at Bible School in California. I have appreciated the preaching of Pat Kenney. I am going to list the series of Matthew that he is preaching.. I was paticularly blessed by the message on Matthew 3 which had a focus on repentance and revival.

I hope you are blessed as I get this series up as they are being preached:

 Re: Pat Kenney on Matthew

Awesome that you posted this up on your site! I was stoked that Pat confronted the topic of sin, and turning from it, as John the Baptist, in Matthew 3, was preaching in the wilderness. I was blessed that he defined true repentance and really just challenged us to allow the fire of God to burn in our lives.

I do hope that all you who may have a listen would be blessed by Pat's teaching on Matthew 3. Last weekend's study on Matthew 2 was also very good. It's a blessing to be a part of what God's doing at this church and in Escondido.

 Re:

LOL!
I was blessed to see you put this up, too, Greg. As I sat under the teaching of God's word, I was thinking, "Greg needs to get this up on his site."

Praise the Lord for Brother Pat and his desire to see the people of God here, there, everywhere wake up from their/our lethargy and walk in that newness of life.

We also had our second newcomers potluck last night. Pat shared his testimony and how God was so faithful to him and the ministry hea has allowed him to be a part of. A real sweet time.

Hope you all are blessed, if you listen.

Thanks Josh and Yolanda, I have been encouraged by that message on Matthew 3 and I do wish I was there in person. My hope and prayer is that God is going to be doing radical things through the ministry of Calvary Chapel in Escondido! I would ask that people pray for an outpouring of the Spirit of God in that city and pray for pastor Pat Kelley. These times are getting near and we need to be radically focused on God and His will for our life daily. God is doing amazing things and desiring, lets stay on our knees.

I am looking forward to going right through the entire book of Matthew over these next few months. If you need to find this thread again its on the front page in the middle at the top with a title: 'Matthew'.

Here is a qoute I just read about the Welsh Revival that happened just over 100 years ago:

"A true move of God is not fueled by money, organization or advertising. True revival only comes when the pillar of fire, that is the presence of God Himself, picks up and moves. To try to organize, promote or sell a move of God is profanity in its lowest form. Historians would later write that the most astonishing feature of the Welsh Revival was the lack of commercialism. There were no hymn books, no song leaders, no committees, no choirs, no great preachers, no offerings, no organization. Yet souls were redeemed, families were healed and whole cities were converted on a scale that had not been seen before or since."

I just added the following message:

• (Matthew) Victory Over Temptation - Matthew 4

I was in person when it was preached and it was a blessing to hear pastor Pat share His heart on this scripture. I really am hoping some people on SI will follow through the matthew series. Please share how its blessed you thus far.

 Re:

I forgot last week, to comment on what I got out of Matthew 4. I've been going through the Gospels during my devotional time, which has been a part of reading through the Bible in its entirity, and so it was a blessing to hear Pastor Pat teach on the temptation of Jesus and compare it to the highlights and markings I made in Matthew 4 when I read it not too long ago.

I had particulary noted that Satan quoted Scripture to Jesus (Matthew 4:6). But the thing to pay attention to is that Satan took the verse from Psalm 91:11-12 and quoted it out of context to use it for his own purposes. Don't we find ourselves doing that today? How important it is to compare Scripture to Scripture and truly know the mind of God when He wrote the Word through man (2 Timothy 3:16-17). If we try to understand God's Word through worldly wisdom, even with our own mind, we will miss God's point completely (1 Corinthians 1:18-25). Only through the Holy Spirit, can we know the things of God (1 Corinthians 2:6-16).

Woops [laughs]! This was supposed to be about Pat's teaching, not Yolanda's commentary. Okay... what Pat said that stuck out to me was that merely knowing the Scriptures will not make the devil flee from you. Submitting to the Scriptures is what makes the devil flee, and enables you to overcome temptation (James 4:7). How much of Christianity today is based on knowing about God and maybe even a bit of the Scriptures, but not being submitted to Him and His Word? We must pray for our church, the body of Christ, and for the potential children of God who have been deceived by mere wisdom of God, but have lacked in submission. Satan desires that all men may be deceived, but God desires that all men may be saved. Let us hope, let us pray, and let us be living examples to those deceived by the enemy, that they may be delivered as we were.

Yolanda

Some great points you are making. It's awesome to see God showing you so much and retaining it from the ministry of God's word. I really think the truth that the devil can use the Word of God out of context and that we can easily fit into that error is very important and well worth being careful of. We need to treat the words of Scripture as they are the Words of God!

1 Thessalonians 2:13 - For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye recieved the word of God which ye heard of us, ye recieved it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.

Just a note for everyone that this last weekend Pat did't preach there was a guest speaker so when he preaches this next weekend on Matthew 5 I should be able to get it up. I encourage everyone to share how they have been blessed thus far listening to this series and I am anticipating going right through the entire book of Matthew!

Actually... this Sunday, Mother's Day, May 8th, Pastor Pat will still be on vacation, and Pastor Mark Turner will be giving the message. He'll be teaching from Matthew 5:7, "Blessed are the merciful..." But Pastor Pat will pick up the study when he returns.
