Preach Like Spurgeon - A Heart Cry To All Preachers Today by Carol Dickinson

In 1879 Charles Haddon Spurgeon gave a message before the Metropolitan Tabernacle Pulpit... of which we so need to hear today from our pulpits.

Here is a snippet from that sermon Spurgeon boldly preached…"I fear there are some who preach with the view of amusing men, and as long as people can be gathered in crowds, and their ears can be tickled, and they can retire pleased with what they have heard, the orator is content, and folds his hands, and goes back self-satisfied. But Paul did not lay himself out to please the public and collect the crowd. If he did not save them he felt that it was of no avail to interest them. Unless the truth had pierced their hearts, affected their lives, and made new men of them, Paul would have gone home crying, "Who hath believed our report, and to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed?"

I would add too that… The sole purpose of preaching to men is to bring them into a constant awareness to always be humble before God. For we are not God but created by God... and we are to serve this all powerful, all knowing and all present Almighty God! God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. The God Israel. The one and only God. Holy, Holy, Holy is our God Almighty, King of the Universe, Creator of Heaven and Earth who was and is and is to come. Holy, Holy, Holy is our God!

God is not our cosmic bellhop. This generation of sensitive souls and user friendly churches wants only to be amused. They crave compliments growing their swelling heads from swelling sermons. They have forgotten God and have begun to worship men.

Have we forgotten the true sacrifice of being servants of God/Christ, all for Christ, focusing on Christ... sacrificing our lives for Christ… repenting from sin, helping the poor, the sick, the orphans and widows in their distress, visiting those in prison and bringing the good news to the lost but also so importantly keeping ourselves undefiled from this wicked world. Not sinning… and helping others… is our reasonable service to God in Jesus Christ... because we love Him! This is true Christianity!

There is to much unholy and vain conversations and rhetoric in our churches today...bla, bla, bla... joke, joke, joke... flatter, flatter, flatter... vanity, vanity, vanity! We have worshiped our own empty worthless words and flatteries. Hot air. Our faith is empty. Our churches are starving to death. There is no meat. There is barely any milk. And there is little fruit. We have feared men more than God. Oh church wake up!

"Cool Dude" pastors of this new millennial age are keen on bringing in the lost but dare not change their cool sermons in order to truly save them… thus keeping the lost lost forever. If this is not a work from satan himself… then I don't know what is.

We need fire and brimstone preachers today desperately more than ever before… like Spurgeon... warning folks of God's wrath to come. We speak only on grace and love without speaking on the repentance of sin, godly sorrow for sin, and turning from sin. If a man is only told that God love's him but is never told he needs to repent from sin then how can this man be saved? He must know this! For a man must not only believe but repent from sin to be saved. Jesus said..."... The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel." (Mark 1:15)

I truly believe if men of God stepped up to the plate and preached as Spurgeon preached with nothing held back… they too would have a full crowd as Spurgeon always had… because people are STARVING for the truth… and everyone knows when they hear it… for these sermons are from God through the mouth of faithful servants such as Charles Spurgeon. So please preach like Spurgeon with no excuses and nothing held back. If you compremise even a little you are capable of being compremised again and again... and eventually you will be preaching weak sermons, unchanging sermons, doctrines of demons, satan's sermons. Are you of God or of satan? Then preach God... in whom you know and what you know to be true... without any interferance from this wicked world!

Does Christ foremost save us from hell? Christ saves us first from sinning. He Saves us from the desire to sin and we cease from sin... because we have believed and followed Christ in His Holy Commands. Jesus said... "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they FOLLOW Me." John 10:27

Oh and preachers don't just tell people that sin is just walking away from God. But tell them what walking away from God looks like so they will know. They need to read the Word... Be filled with the Holy Spirit. Walk in truth. Walk in Faith. Walk in Love. BUT Tell them that continual sin such as unrepented adultery, fornication, homosexuality, lying, stealing, dishonoring parents, worshiping other gods, taking God's name in vain, murder, hatred, unforgiveness etc… if never repented of... or stopped... but proudly continued practiced (even though they said they were Christians) they will not enter the Kingdom of Heaven but hell itself. They never had remorse for their sin... nor a desire to turn from it. Therefore they never truly desired our Holy Christ nor to walk with Him in Holiness.

So Preachers… Please... Preach like Spurgeon!

The churches are starving!
