Palaung, Golden, Shwe of Myanmar (Burma)In the past the Shwe were great hunters, but today most earn their living by growing tea or bamboo. On the rare occasion of a Shwe Palaung becoming a Christian, the new believer is usually persecuted and driven from the village. Most Palaung are Buddhists. However, they have also maintained their ethnic animist religion which is a primitive system of beliefs based on evil spirits called nats. The Palaung believe that while all of the nats are inherently evil, some are more evil than others. One must spend their life trying to appease the nats.Ministry ObstaclesThere will be opposition from spiritual forces as the good news of Jesus is presented to the Shwe Palaung. Pray against this, so the people will be free to understand and believe.Outreach IdeasPlease pray for workers to take Gospel recordings (which are available) and other resources to these people. Pray the Lord will help them prepare well for this assignment.Pray for the followers of ChristThere is only a small handful of Shwe Palaung who follows Jesus Christ. They need teachers to help them, and they need people to pray for them.Pray for the entire people groupThe Palaung have been tremendously affected by the fighting and bloodshed of the past. They need healing and new spiritual hope.Scripture Focus"The Lord has bared His holy arm in the sight of all the nations, That all the ends of the earth may see The salvation of our God."
