Thank you 4gvn... for letting us know that you still have a question. Yes, sin can separate you from God, if you allow it to take its full course. "Sin when it is fully developed (Greek word indicates achieving its end) engenders death. This death is separation from God.

We can commit a "sin", an act of disobedience, without allowing that "sin" to reach its end. The Holy Spirit will convict us of that "sin" to free us from it, and we need only to repent and confess (which means to agree by saying the same as the Spirit) and that "sin" will be forgiven and we will be cleansed from its unrighteous influence and effect.

If we only deal with the individual "sins" and fail to recognize the root cause - "the law of sin in our members", then we are in much greater danger of separation from God. Unless we strike at the root the fruit will keep coming! This is why we need to understand how to become "fully united with Him in the likeness of His death." This spiritual union happens as we look in faith to the cross of Christ and realize that "our old man was crucified with Him, in order that the body of sin might be renedered powerless, so that we should no longer serve sin." Those who are no longer slaves to sin, are in much greater protection from sin than those attempting to battle against sin in their own pitiful weakness.

This union with Christ, strikes at the root of "indwelling sin" and circumcises our old nature so that we are "no longer IN the flesh, but IN the Spirit, One spirit with Christ." This union is a dynamic change of nature, as we are transferred from sin being our master, to a new man, united with Christ in Spirit, and freed from the law of sin so that we may walk in newness of life.

Those who fully recognize this new dynamic union with and IN Christ, experience His grace reigning in righteousness. As we learn to abide in Christ, and to be led by His Spirit, we will stop fulfilling the lusts of the flesh. This new life is freedom from the dominating power of sin. We will still be tempted to sin, and suffer just like Christ Jesus suffered when He was tempted, but we will learn obedience through the things we suffer and grow stronger in Spirit as we endure tribulation.

We escape the corruption that is in the world through lusts when we become partakers of His devine nature. This participation allows us to give all diligence to add to our faith, so that we are abounding in the provisions of grace found in Christ. Doing these things, we will never fall, and we will make our calling and election sure, because we are being transformed with ever increasing glory into Christ image.

This is the surest way to prevent sin from separating us from God. We need to look to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. He began the work by atoning for our sins, forgiving us our sins and reconciling us to His Father. He continues to work to free us from sin, redeem us from all lawlessness and purify us until we are zealous for good works. Those who learn to abide in Him in this way can not go on sinning, because He abides in us and keeps us.

please let me know if this is unclear.

Very well laid out and very clear to me. Thank you! I was a bit unclear as to what you and Ron were saying, too. But now you have brought clarity and I heartily agree and say AMEN!

Excellent statement! This is what I see in the scriptures from the witness of the Spirit.

Jesus Christ did not come just to forgive us. He did not come to save us IN our sin but to save us FROM sin and to make us whole again (NOW), and free to function as He intends for us to function in this life.
