Media refuses to cover trial of abortion doctor...

Philadelphia abortion clinic horror: Column
by Kirsten Powers
USA TODAY
11 April 2013

We've forgotten what belongs on Page One.

Infant beheadings. Severed baby feet in jars. A child screaming after it was delivered alive during an abortion procedure. Haven't heard about these sickening accusations?

It's not your fault. Since the murder trial of Pennsylvania abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell began March 18, there has been precious little coverage of the case that should be on every news show and front page. The revolting revelations of Gosnell's former staff, who have been testifying to what they witnessed and did during late-term abortions, should shock anyone with a heart.

NBC-10 Philadelphia reported that, Stephen Massof, a former Gosnell worker, "described how he snipped the spinal cords of babies, calling it, 'literally a beheading. It is separating the brain from the body." One former worker, Adrienne Moton, testified that Gosnell taught her his "snipping" technique to use on infants born alive.

Massof, who, like other witnesses, has himself pleaded guilty to serious crimes, testified "It would rain fetuses. Fetuses and blood all over the place." Here is the headline the Associated Press put on a story about his testimony that he saw 100 babies born and then snipped: "Staffer describes chaos at PA abortion clinic."

"Chaos" isn't really the story here. Butchering babies that were already born and were older than the state's 24-week limit for abortions is the story. There is a reason the late Democratic senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan called this procedure infanticide.

Planned Parenthood recently claimed that the possibility of infants surviving late-term abortions was "highly unusual." The Gosnell case suggests otherwise.

Regardless of such quibbles, about whether Gosnell was killing the infants one second after they left the womb instead of partially inside or completely inside the womb — as in a routine late-term abortion — is merely a matter of geography. That one is murder and the other is a legal procedure is morally irreconcilable.

A Lexis-Nexis search shows none of the news shows on the three major national television networks has mentioned the Gosnell trial in the last three months. The exception is when Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy Noonan hijacked a segment on Meet the Press meant to foment outrage over an anti-abortion rights law in some backward red state.

The Washington Post has not published original reporting on this during the trial and The New York Times saw fit to run one original story on A-17 on the trial's first day. They've been silent ever since, despite headline-worthy testimony.

Let me state the obvious. This should be front page news. When Rush Limbaugh attacked Sandra Fluke, there was non-stop media hysteria. The venerable NBC Nightly News' Brian Williams intoned, "A firestorm of outrage from women after a crude tirade from Rush Limbaugh," as he teased a segment on the brouhaha. Yet, accusations of babies having their heads severed — a major human rights story if there ever was one — doesn't make the cut.

You don't have to oppose abortion rights to find late-term abortion abhorrent or to find the Gosnell trial eminently newsworthy. This is not about being "pro-choice" or "pro-life." It's about basic human rights.

The deafening silence of too much of the media, once a force for justice in America, is a disgrace.

Here is an article with images of the empty media section of the courtroom:

Re: Media refuses to cover trial of abortion doctor...

Chris,

Thank you for posting this information which is shocking indeed but not surprising.

The liberal media refuses to cover stories like this that goes against their philosophy.

There is no pretending now that many abortion doctors do not care at what stage the baby is aborted or not trying to save a baby that has survived an abortion.

There was a bill that President Obama voted against when he was a senator which would have protected a baby that had survived an abortion.

May God have mercy on this nation.

Mike

 Re:

I agree, AbideinHim.

It is ironic that the media will cover extensively the demands of a 30+ year old unmarried female graduate student who demands that religious organizations provide coverage for contraceptives and abortions...yet ignores an abortion clinic that was run by a monster who butchered his victims.

This type of "selective coverage" is the biggest proof of the bias in the media. They will cover any homosexual who is beaten (or, in some cases, claims to have been beaten) but rarely covers those who are persecuted for their faith around the world.

If a Christian medical doctor who opposes abortion and homosexual marriage is going to speak at a university, the Left will cover the protests by feminists and homosexual activists and their demands that the university rejects him. Yet, when Dan Savage (the homosexual founder of an anti-bullying group known as "It Gets Better") calls for execution of a gubernatorial candidate or wishes that "all Republicans were dead" or boasts that he tried to physically infect a Christian candidate and his staff with influenza, or mocks the Bible, Christianity and Christians at a public high school assembly, you hear very little about it (and mostly in non-mainstream news outlets) and the media still applauds him for his "initiative."

I knew that things would continue to grow worse when political power is given to those who oppose Christ or the morality that is derived through faith. However, I am surprised at the rapid rate of descent that society is experiencing over the last few years.

Indeed: "Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people." - Proverbs 14:34

 Re:

I'm beginning to think the problem runs deeper then the liberal media. The real issue is that Americans desire mass conformity more then free thinking.

Not too long ago Americas idealogical base was conversation nationalism, ...today it is political correctness. What is chilling isn't that one idealogical base is worse then another, but that the American population can be made to switch idealogical bases repeatedly en masse.

"The United States is unusual among the industrial democracies in the rigidity of the system of ideological control - "indoctrination," we might say - exercised through the mass media...I have often thought that if a rational Fascist dictatorship were to exist, then it would choose the American system." -Noam Chomsky

 Re:

If he had committed these murders by shooting the children with a Bushmaster rifle as opposed to decapitating them with scissors, as he did, then the media would have been all over this with hourly updates.

It's all about the $$$$$$$ made in abortion. Hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars every year.

A fair amount of that money is making it back to politicians and "newscasters" pockets as kick backs to insure that the truth of it does not see the light of day. It truly is the "cash cow" for many of them.

The love of money is the root of all kinds of evil.

 Re:

Mike, you are right, the problem runs much deeper than the liberal media, because it is "the prince of the power of the air" that controls the liberal media.

When you are calling good evil and evil good, when you mix up light with darkness, and darkness with light, then the source of this deception is from the powers of darkness.

This has happened largely because of the silence of the Church. The Churche's light is very dim, only a flicker from the fire that was poured out at Pentecost. There is a remnant however that will shine brightly and expose the darkness.

"Arise, shine; for your light has come, And the glory of the LORD has risen upon you." (Isaiah 60:1).

"Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness; Who substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!" (Isaiah 5:20).

The ability to move American public opinion in unison, much like a beekeeper captures and controls a swarm of bees, would be fascinating to watch if we weren't one of the bees!

Amen! As ambassadors for Christ, and citizens of another kingdom, we have not been called to change public opinion, but to be His witnesses. If the American public had a heart change, then there would be a change of opinion. America's only hope is revival that would bring an awakening and reformation.
