In the past few days, God enabled me to express the burden of my heart for the church in the following sonnet: Holy FireWhat is the Gospel without holy fire?Or preaching without unction, passion-filled?-Conceived by prayers whose cries cannot be stilledUntil God's living words the lips inspire-And what is prayer without anguished desire? Can souls be won without Christ's love instilledInto the heart? His precious blood was spilledWith burning quest our lost souls to acquire!Yet here we grovel in His Church below With those devices which our means supply-Content with such tradition as we know-Unknown the promised Power from on High!Lord, fan our smoking embers to a flame,And pour Your Spirit's oil upon the same!David Jantzi
Amen. Inspired of the Spirit and beautiful.Thank you for sharing, David. May God hear from heaven our prayers for holy fire.Leslie
DavidI haven't commented here in a very long time but when I read your poem I felt compelled to tell you how meaningful it is to me. It expresses the things that are heavy on my own heart in recent days. Although it is beautiful, I hesitate to call it that because it is so devastatingly heart breaking.Thank you for sharing it.Danielle
