Sin will never be more than a generalization until Christians give a place for the right use of the law.The law is a schoolmaster and Christians do well to use it as a means for leading people to become Christ's followers. No flesh is justified in God's sight by law-keeping. However, law-breaking is sin. Sin offends God. By the law, we define and identify what sin is. (Romans 3:20)Sin is the transgression of the law. (1 John 3:4)The law is good if a man use it lawfully. (1 Timothy 1:8)Although it may be pardoned, sin has lasting consequences as may be observed from the sins of Abraham and David and others (perhaps including ourselves). If we acknowledge our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9)
