 Re: pascal's wager

For those that are unaware of this term:

Pascal’s Wager (also known as Pascal’s Gambit) is an argument in apologetic philosophy which was devised by the seventeenth-century French philosopher, mathematician, and physicist, Blaise Pascal. It posits that there's more to be gained from wagering on the existence of God than from atheism, and that a rational person should live as though God exists, even though the truth of the matter cannot actually be known.

Pascal formulated the wager within a Christian framework, and it was set out in section 233 of his posthumously published Pensées. (Pensées, meaning thoughts, was the name given to the collection of unpublished notes which, after Pascal's death, were assembled to form an incomplete treatise on Christian apologetics.)

If you believe in God and God does exist, you will be rewarded with eternal life in heaven; thus an infinite gain.
If you do not believe in God and God does exist, you will be condemned to remain in hell forever; thus an infinite loss.
If you believe in God and God does not exist, you will not be rewarded; thus a finite loss.
If you do not believe in God and God does not exist, you will not be rewarded, but you have lived your own life; thus a finite gain.

I personally disagree with this. I used to believe it was ok if in the end Christianity was wrong and all religions went to heaven. Yet this is not biblical reasoning for Paul clearly says of the Holy Spirit if Christ did not rise then "we are of all people most to be pitied".

For to be a true believer in Christ we will suffer against sin, the devil and the world system. We will even suffer great physical, mental and emotional persecution from the world. Thus to be a true Christian is to suffer and if there is no reward and no heaven then it would have been much better to "not" believe in Christ and live to simply enjoy this life.

Satanism simply defined is "eat, drink and be merry and pay no consideration to God" Sadly some Christians live in this way but pay lip-service to God once a week. We must be a different race of men on this earth. We must proclaim Christ or He will not speak of us before the Father and the Holy angels. And to proclaim Christ will mean we will be ridiculed for His Name and even suffer.

"And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith. 15 More than that, we are then found to be false witnesses about God, for we have testified about God that he raised Christ from the dead. But he did not raise him if in fact the dead are not raised. 16 For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised either. 17 And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. 18 Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost. 19 If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied." - 1 Corinthians 15:14-19

Very well said, that is the exact verse that comes to mind when I think of Pascal’s Wager.
