Mat.6:6
.But you, when you pray, go into your room and close the door and pray to your Father who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

I like his reward in secret prayer.

 Re:

Irdeed is Jesus not the ultimate reward? When God says that we will be rewarded in secret prayer is it not with God himself?

We are in a love relationship with the bride groom. We long in our hearts to see him. We are love sick to be in his presence. Jesus is the sole object of our affections. We are in relationship to him. That day when we behold him, when we are consumated with him, Jesus will be our ultimate reward.

 Re:

My dear friends,

In keeping with the thrust of the OP . The author does not say we should negate the love of God as being the motivation behind our walk in holiness . But he is saying that not all followers of Christ will be rewarded the same.
This idea of degrees of reward is being mocked by many professing believers.

When the Devil comes to a believers he will not use the same method he uses with the unsaved, in other words, he will not tell him you honor God by committing adultery, at least in the beginning he will not because any sane believer will recognize this to be a lie. But he will use things that sound very honoring and glorifying to God. He will begin by what Blaine emphatically expressed, he will say that fear should never be the motivation of doing right. It should be the love of God. While this in itself is not a lie yet it does something very harming to the believer. It causes him to ignore, neglect or explain away some of the plain teachings of our Lord on reward and judgment. This method is very clever because it sounds very exalting to God and abasing to man which any true believer will go for wholeheartedly.
Once the Devil gets this well established he will move to the next step.
Since we do not live in a sinless world wrapped with a sinless body but in fact are surrounded by enemies within and without we fall into temptation.
Now any honest believer will admit that they sin ones in a while. In fact I have people who could write volumes on the grace of God tell me that in one day they sin million, trillion, quadrillion, quintillion, septillion times. While this language sounds very humble because it echoes the publican in the temple, yet any discerning spirit will see the pride cloaked in humility.
Such false professors of grace fill churches everywhere but I am not really concerned about those.
I am concerned about the true believer who may buy into such false notions.
But even true believers know that we sin from time to time and Satan will use temptations to get true believers to sin. But sin is in direct violation of loving God. When we sin we prove that we love self more that we love God.
When Satan gets a believer to sin he tells him that God loves him still ( which is true) , in fact God loves him more than people that do not sin as much as he does because God wants humble people than sinless people ( which is a mixture between lies and truth) . Satan will remind him of the Pharisee and the publican, for the Pharisee certainly did not sin nearly as much as the publican yet he was a proud man who missed God’s righteousness. Ones this belief is established that more sin produces more humility, and because of the pull of the flesh and the world the believer is more apt to fall for the lies of the Devil.
But as time goes on something happens that we are unaware of. We become hardened to God Word and voice of the Spirit and we mistake it for the Devil. We automatically discount it as the voice of the accuser of the brethren.
I am sad to say many believers have fallen into these lies beyond any hope of return. Ones the hardening takes place when the publican becomes a Pharisee but instead of glorying in his righteousness he glories in his sin and in the righteousness of God which he thinks covers him when in fact it does not.

Now, God knows all this about us and had provided a balance in His Word that we should never deviate from, it is the balance between fear and love, when the latter decreases the former increases. But when we fall to the lies of the Devil under ideal notions that even seem to exalt God we have taken ourselves from under the boundaries of God’s safety.

 Re:

Pilgrim, I am sorry to disappoint your God honoring translation of the Bible but the Hebrew does not really say " I am your great reward"

But rather " Your reward is great", or " I will reward you greatly"

This incident comes after the incident that Abraham had with king of Sodom when Abraham refused to take any of his offer saying "I will not take from a thread even to a shoelatchet, and that I will not take any thing that is thine, lest thou shouldest say, I have made Abram rich:"

because Abraham honored God, He then appeared to him saying " I will reward you greatly"

We know that because the very next verse says:
"And Abram said, Lord GOD, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus?"

Now, If God had said " I am your great reward , then Abraham would not have said " What will you give me?"

Having clarified that I must say that God is the greatest reward we have, yet the Bible speaks of different rewards.
Some will be saved but as with fire and some will be saved gloroiusly.

The Devil's methods in the last days will be hidden and more subtle than ever. He will come up with things that sound absolutely gloroius and honoring to God, Exalting to grace and love, yet will produce Satanic and rotton fruit.

Only those who walk with God so closly will be able to discern this deceptive spirit.

 Re: Untobabes

Dear Sister there are going to be rewards in heaven and the heart so moved by Christ will be building on the foundation if Christ. Their desire will be building upon his foundation with gold, jewels, and precious stones.

But let us keep the focus on Jesus. You alluded in one of your previous post to the persecuted. What sustains them? What gives them hope? What makes them overcomers in the previous verses you quoted from revelation? Is it reward from the Lamb or the reward of the Lamb himself? I ask again is it reward from the Lamb or the reward of the Lamb himself?

My sister the ultimate goal of the believer is Jesus and not the reward. The rewards are merely icing or cherries. Even the crowns that we recieve will be tossed back at the feet of Jesus. In one sense we will count all things as loss for the surpassing value and greatness of knowing Jesus. Even our rewards.

 Re:

Nothing will be given to us that is greater than Jesus, Himself. Therefore, I will just throw any "rewards" back at His feet, because He is the only reason I am at His feet and I care for nothing save Jesus Himself.

Now, Genesis 15:1 works just fine for me and agrees with the Spirit of the Word throughout the Bible. I don't need the Hebrew to understand God's word in the Spirit.

The preponderance of God's Word says, He is my reward. I do not see any conflict with this belief. Indeed, I see only confirmation. In my heart, I long for Him, what more is there to long for?

Let me happy in my ignorance of Hebrew. :-) I have gotten this far without it.

Psa 16:5 The LORD IS MY PORTION of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot.

Lam 3:24 The LORD IS MY PORTION, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.

Rev 21:3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God HIMSELF SHALL BE WITH THEM, AND BE THEIR GOD.

His blessings to you,
Pilgrim
