Seeking God with all your heart...and doing it EARLY

I have been reading this site for nearly 4 years, and have never posted before. My life was changed when one day Christ saved me... it was changed again when into my hands fell a work titled "While Revival Tarries."

I thank you all for the uplifting comments, sermons, discussions, and testimonies I have read.

I wanted to share with you all the following scripture:

(Psa 63:1) A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah. O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;

I recently began a 4.30 am prayer meeting in our church. It has been going on Monday thru Fri and some Saturdays now for nearly 60 days. I must say it has been some of the best times I have ever spent with the Lord! He has already answered prayer in many amazing ways... his teaching and leading of the Spirit is now so much more vivid.

I would encourage us all to seek the Lord EARLY... I remember Ravenhill saying that a real church, a church in revival, will have a prayer meeting EVERYDAY. I now understand somewhat of what he meant by that statement. Oh the blessings of God saints on the people that will seek his face!

Does anyone have any experience with this type of prayer meeting? Any suggestions? Any thoughts on getting people to come...To see the blessing that is before us if we will but pray in the Spirit?

 Re:

Sure Gary I'll pray for you and ask the Lord to lead you and use you in prayer.

I was hoping that some other folks on here had experience w/ early morning group prayer....no one out there?

I was hoping to hear of your testimonies and how the Lord blessed your church.

I was hoping to hear that the fire of God began to burn in your church and folks just couldn't stay away from the prayer meetings.

Any one ever read the memoirs of Charles Finney? You find that people would come together and seek God for souls...and souls were saved.

I believe the heart wrenching prayer meeting is one of the things that truly separates our church experience from men like John Hyde, Rees Howells, Finney, Edwards, and the Wesleys.

I ask God to stir us all that we might seek his face.

Re: Seeking God with all your heart...and doing it EARLY

We recently started an early morning prayer group at my church. Not as early as yours though. We start at 6.

We are a very small church and we have from 4 to 7 in attendance at the prayer Monday through Saturday.

We have seen God heal a marriage already near the final divorce decree. And we have seen him work in an awsome way in one who is a leader and opposed to a particular mission direction the Lord was/is leading ~ a 180 turn.

The more we see/experience the more we hunger for more of Him and His Spirit.

Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good!

REJOICE! =)

 Re:

Praise God for those miracles!

We are usually about the same in number as your group. We had a special meeting on Thanksgiving day just come in and give thanks in prayer... we had about 10 or so, and it was wonderful!

God has also blessed in the marriage realm during our meetings. He has greatly helped my own marriage as well as other young couples in the church.

Just this week a recently backslidden young preacher who was at the doors of divorce and leaving his wife for another woman began to make his way back into prayer. He has been back in church for weeks now but has not showed any sign of really wanting to do God's will. To my surprise one morning at 4.30 there he was ready to seek God! (LOL guess I shouldn't have been surprised... its what we have been seeking for!)

These meetings are one of the greatest things I have even seen God do in our church and I am trusting with all my heart that real revial is on its way.

God still answers prayer saints!

 Re:

BrotherMatt I would like to share a bit more with you.

I printed out your posts on this thread and shared them with our "First Light" prayer group. We were greatly encouraged to know what God is doing in your midst. We marveled that He laid the prayer time on your heart at roughly the same time He did the same to my pastor. (Albeit I personally am glad our prayer time is not as early ;p ) And we prayed for you.

Then there was the Sunday service.

Among other things we had been praying specifically for the message and the pastor. We were to celebrate Lord's Supper and Pastor felt in his spirit that previously there had been a somewhat casual attitude as we approached the table. We asked for a fresh anointing that he would have the right words and that they would be preached "not with mere words but with power and the Holy Spirit" and that there would be deep conviction.

Prior to the service there were 3 specific things that occurred that could have quenched the Spirit and created chaos. But God is faithful.

There were about 50 in the service. Pastor began by talking about taking the cup in and unworthy manner. He went on to say specifically things like "if you are a young person and you are only here because your parents made you come and you would rather be ANYwhere else don't partake". "If you are only here to please your spouse don't partake." "If you know you are full of lust and like to view pornography....." There were many "if, don't"s. At first there were a couple of loud "Amen!"s but soon the sanctuary became totally quiet.

Pastor then said there would be an altar call for any that needed to pray before the elements were passed. At least half of those present went forward to pray.

Two committed to Christ. One of those, a young man whose wife never even expected him to come to church, stood with his face awash with tears saying he wanted Jesus to have his whole life ~ all of it. A young woman, whose husband wouldn't let her come to church at first but relented when he was deployed, wanted to be saved but with a caveat. She wants us to teach her to follow Jesus. =)

(One of other thing we have been praying is for disciples of Jesus not "converts".)

There were other evidences of the Spirit moving too.

ALL GLORY TO GOD!!! MAY HIS NAME BE EXALTED!!!

Are we in revival? Not yet. These are like those first few scattered big raindrops before an approaching storm. We praise Him for these. How gracious He is. But we don't want to camp here. We pray for a gully-washer. =)

I apologize for the length of this. It's just that I want to be sure He gets all the glory. He is worthy.

May you see God's fingerprints in your life today.

REJOICE! =)

Re: Seeking God With All Of Your Heart

When we seek God with all of our heart, He will bless us with numerous blessings that are uncountable. If we want to know His will for our lives, we have to seek Him in prayer to ask Him to show us what He has for our future.
