Should we fear chastizement from the Lord if we sin?

As many of you know i have struggled with much for some time now, but should i be in fear everytime i sin that God is going to hurt me for that sin or punish me physically somehow? I have struggled with this because of my back injury, i felt as if the injury came through because of my sin that now everuytime i sin that something worse might happen. I just am so fearful, even after i confess and repent i still feel as if the Lord can forgive me, but i might have to deal with the consequences. I remember the voice of the Lord would softly convict me. I know we should fear the Lord, but should i say for an example fall into lust continusoulsly and struggle getting rid of that sexual lust should i confess and repent again and just know the Lord has let it go to, or should i be fearful?

1Co 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

Why ask if you'll be chastised if you continue in sin when you know His Word? What does His Word say about sin [as in the verse above] and what does His Word say about 'continuing in sin'?

You teach at your Church - you must know The Word pretty well then.

Re: Should we fear chastizement from the Lord if we sin?

Dear brother, in love and concern I will ask you to read these scriptures and please pray and meditate
over it. DO NOT PLAY WITH SIN !! It is possible to “play with sin” and to entertain sin and by that giving it a place in your heart.
If you are a believer, make sure Jesus and His Word will get the only place in your heart.
And stretch yourself to this as your first priority.
13 Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; 14 as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; 15 but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16 because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”[c]
17 And if you call on the Father, who without partiality judges according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves throughout the time of your stay here in fear; 18 knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. 20 He indeed was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you 21 who through Him believe in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.
1 Peter 1:13-21
11 Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, 2 Peter 3:11
Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may[a] serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. Hebrews 12:28

Set your heart right for G'd brother!
He is a Holy G'd.

Fear it, or expect it?

Brother... did you not read of His bruises? His laserations? The nails driven thru His hands and feet? He's thirst? His last dying breath?

God's wrath was taken out on His son, not you.

Do we suffer the results of sin? Absolutely. Does God chastise? Absolutely. But you are not thinking scripturally here. You are not under God's wrath, but you are making Him out to be angry with you. He is no longer angry with you if He has regenerated your heart and saved you! Thats the Gospel.

Because He took the Father's wrath upon Himself, and because He has chosen to save YOU from the Father's wrath... you should desire holiness in your life, and repent and stop your sin.

Read Romans over and over again until you get it.

Re: Should we fear chastizement from the Lord if we sin?

Jehoshaphat .... proclaimed A FAST FOR ALL JUDAH. And the people of Judah came together TO SEEK HELP FROM THE LORD;
2 Chronicles 20.3b-4

John,

Bro, do not fear the Lord but SEEK Him; you are fearing the Lord in the wrong way.

And seek Him with fasting. When was the last time you fasted? (Do not answer me here) It seems like you've tried everything else, why not try fasting from food for a couple of days. Do not tell anyone but your wife that you are fasting. And the time that you would take to eat, take that time to read His word and seek His face.

Quote from Derek Prince:
"I believe the essential nature of fasting is renouncing the natural to invoke the supernatural. The most natural thing for us to do is eat. When we give up eating, we are deliberately turning away from the natural by turning to God and the supernatural. This has deep significance."

And in the mean time, why don't you just start fresh AS IF you believe He has forgiven you! Wake up and say, today I am forgiven, I will not walk in fear, if I stumble, I will repent and be forgiven. I will walk in the love of the Lord today.

I HUMBLED my soul WITH FASTING...
Psalm 35.13

then, there at the Ahava river, I PROCLAIMED A FAST; so that we could HUMBLE OURSELVES before our god and ask a safe journey of him for ourselves, our little ones and all our possessions.
Ezra 8.21

God bless you John!

Amen to Krispy, I was going to respond but you took the words out of my mouth and wrote them way better than I could. :)

Re: Should we fear chastizement from the Lord if we sin?

bible4life, I'll tell you what happened in my own life. Here is a real life example. I have been caught up in sexual sin for about 35 years now. Yes after every "acting out" episode there was the torment of demonic spirits that would make me sick and give me headaches. Also the Holy Spirit was quenched. I would be a vegetable for several days and some days barely able to go to work. Some days I couldn't make it to work.

Well, I've found that as long as you have the desire to get out of this sin, the Lord will have mercy but you will still reap what you sow. We all know how it feels after binging on porn. About 1.5 years ago though, I began to entertain thoughts that I would go to my grave with this sin because I didn' think I could get out of it. Not too long after that the Lord brought me into severe judgment. The Holy Spirit moved away from me, and the Lord doesn't speak to me by His Holy Spirit anymore. I am physically sick now from my illicit activity. I am barely surviving, and each day is a struggle. Will the Holy Spirit ever come back? I don't know. He's been gone for over a year. Was this just chastisement? No, it was chastisement and God's wrath. If you don't stop, you could very well come to the place where the Lord brought me. "For which things sake cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience". It's in the NT, but I can't remember where off the top of my head. So long as you want to keep on playing games with this sin, you run the risk that the Lord may one day say "enough". That doesn't mean you will die or go to hell, but it means you are in for a lot of pain. Heck the Lord didn't even give up on that lady Jezebel in the 3rd chapter of the book of revelations. She was teaching other believers that fornication was OK. The Lord said that unless she would repent that he would cast her on a bed of unbelievable suffering. The Lord said he gave her space to repent of her deeds. This account is either in the 2nd or 3rd chapter of Revelation.

 Re:

Ok, to answer your question directly. Yes! You should fear God's chastisement. Who said it was the same as wrath? It is not. But that does not make it feel any better, does it?

An earthly son does not want to be chastised by his father any more than a heavenly son would want to.

Chastisement is humiliating and painful. Would you rather not humble yourself first or be humbled?

Do you fear sickness? Do you fear loss of loved ones? Do you fear loss of job of reputation amongst the brethren and the world?

God's anger was kindled against His children in the wilderness because of their hardness of heart and stiffneckedness. You deceive yourself if you think God's anger will not be kindled against you in a form of chastisement.

We have created a Father in heaven that is like an earthly father that does not have the heart to inflict pain on his children because it makes HIM (the father) feel bad.

Let me tell you. God the Father is not human or selfish or concerned about His own feelings. He is concerned about you!

He has been raising children for over 6,000 years and will continue to parent like He has always parented. And you are not special and you won't be treated differently.

Now, thank God for Jesus! Because you have an Intercessor where in the OT, there was no heavenly intercessor. Just earthly intercessors and God would hear them sometimes.

But we have a heavenly intercessor who is interceding day and night. But don't take this as false security that you can continue in your sin. Don't push the Father and and take advantage of His grace through Jesus Christ. Because in the end, He will do what is right for you. That is what a Father does. He does not withhold punishment from you because it makes Him feel bad. You better get rid of that thinking.

The Fear of the Lord is a clean fear. We do not cower in trepidation but you better fear the Lord because when you stop fearing His hand of chastisment you are in big trouble.

We preach a false God and a false Jesus to the detriment of others.

God can get pretty angry without getting wrathful.

Heb 12:24 And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.

Heb 12:25 See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven:

Yes, Moses was a mere man, and Jesus is the Son of God. Much more sorer will be your punishment, but before you are completely cast off, God's great mercy as demonstrated through His Son will call you back to Him repeatedly, through words of reasoning but eventually sore chastisment if you persist in your rebellion. If He cannot get your attention through His Words of reasoning He certainly has methods that will get your attention.

Isa 1:18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
Isa 1:19 If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land:
Isa 1:20 But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.
Isa 1:21 How is the faithful city become an harlot! it was full of judgment; righteousness lodged in it; but now murderers.
Isa 1:22 Thy silver is become dross, thy wine mixed with water:
Isa 1:23 Thy princes are rebellious, and companions of thieves: every one loveth gifts, and followeth after rewards: they judge not the fatherless, neither doth the cause of the widow come unto them.
Isa 1:24 Therefore saith the Lord, the LORD of hosts, the mighty One of Israel, Ah, I will ease me of mine adversaries, and avenge me of mine enemies:
Isa 1:25 And I will turn my hand upon thee, and purely purge away thy dross, and take away all thy tin:
Isa 1:26 And I will restore thy judges as at the first, and thy counsellors as at the beginning: afterward thou shalt be called, The city of righteousness, the faithful city.
Isa 1:27 Zion shall be redeemed with judgment, and her converts with righteousness.
Isa 1:28 And the destruction of the transgressors and of the sinners shall be together, and they that forsake the LORD shall be consumed.

Yes, if you forsake the Lord, you will be consumed.

Be not deceived!

Christendom thinks because of Jesus they now have this special status with God and that they can do anything.

We must learn to love discipline. It is the way of life.

REPROOFS FOR DISCIPLINE ARE THE WAY OF LIFE.

22. "When you walk about, they will guide you;
When you sleep, they will watch over you; And when you awake, they will talk to you.

23. For the commandment is a lamp and the teaching is light; And reproofs for discipline are the way of life."....Proverbs 6......and....

"You have not yet resisted to bloodshed, striving against sin! 5 And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons:

“ My son, do not despise the chastening of the LORD,
Nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him;
6 For whom the LORD loves He chastens,
And scourges every son whom He receives.”

We will not be received by the Lord, unless we receive and endure His discipline. We are called to be conformed to the living image and Spirit of Christ, and Discipline, through bearing our Cross...[ Learning to die to our satanic nature and live to His Holy One...] , is the only thing that will change us.

Learning to DIE to our Way, and live to His, is at the core of this type of discipline, and is the only way that anyone will EVER mature in Christ.

He who loves discipline, loves life, and this attitude is at the core of loving Jesus, and learning of Him. Eternal implications are in the balance. ....................

"Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.

25. He who loves his [a]life loses it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it to life eternal.

26 If anyone serves Me, he must follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also; if anyone serves Me, the Father will honor him."..John 12....Jesus ......

If we refuse the discipline that would convert you to know Him, and reject it, you reject Jesus. Only those who who hate their own way, and receive that conforming chastisement, will know Him....even unto life eternal........................

"Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

23And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity." [ refuse selfishness and the pride of life and accept discipline..]

24Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock."...Jesus...Matthew 7................

Wisdom dwells in accepting Holy Spirit discipline. It is the only path to knowing Jesus.
