Philippians 2:8-9And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every nameWhat did it mean for Jesus to humble himself? We must simply admit that this is beyond us.The Lord of Glory Entered CreationOf course it was humbling for the Lord of glory, who created all things,1 to become part of the creation. He became for a little while lower than the angels2and lived 30 years unrecognized by anyone except very few. We know that not even his brothers believed in him.3More than that, he lived without sin4 in a sin-filled world. If Lot was distressed by what he witnessed in Sodom,5 imagine what it was like to be the pure Son of God living in a world governed by the Evil One.6 No wonder he was a man of sorrows.7He Was Rejected by MenMore than that, when he came out publicly, he was despised and rejected by men 8 by his own people.9 Even his closest followers him did not really understand his mission,10 and when his hour came, one betrayed him,11 another denied him,12 and all abandoned him.13But this was not the depth of his humbling. He Became Sin for UsThe supremely humbling moment was when Jesus, who knew no sin, was made to be sin for us.14 This Holy One, who had only done what was pleasing to the Father,15 took upon himself all our unholy sin and bore the full brunt of the Fathers wrathful displeasure that should have fallen on us.16Mercifully, we will never know by experience what it cost Jesus to humble himself in this way. But being preeminent in all things17, he showed himself supremely humble. And supremely humbling himself under his Fathers mighty hand, we will all rejoice in the righteous glory of the Father exalting his Son above all others.181 Colossians 1:162 Hebrews 2:93 John 7:44 Hebrews 4:1551 Peter 2:761 John 5:197Isaiah 53:38Isaiah 53:39 John 1:1110Luke 9:4511Luke 6:1612Mark 14:7213Matthew 26:56142 Corinthians 5:2115John 8:2916Romans 5:917Colossians 1:18181 Peter 5:6

Col 1:16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: Heb 2:9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man. Joh 7:4 For there is no man that doeth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou do these things, shew thyself to the world. Heb 4:15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 1Pe 2:7 Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, 1Jn 5:19 And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness. Isa 53:3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Joh 1:11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not. Luk 9:45 But they understood not this saying, and it was hid from them, that they perceived it not: and they feared to ask him of that saying. Luk 6:16 And Judas the brother of James, and Judas Iscariot, which also was the traitor. Mar 14:72 And the second time the cock crew. And Peter called to mind the word that Jesus said unto him, Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice. And when he thought thereon, he wept. Mat 26:56 But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled. 2Co 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. Joh 8:29 And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him. Rom 5:9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. Col 1:18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. 1Pe 5:6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
