 Our God of Eternal Joy

Psalms 16:11 Thou wilt shew me the path of life:6 in thy presence is fullness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

1 Ch 16:27 Glory and honour are in His presence; strength and gladness are in His place.

In studying the attributes of God sometimes we tend to forget such elements as the joy, beauty, and pleasure of God. One day recently at work, the train of thought came to me that God is the only being who has always been joyful. He is full of joy. What a freeing uplifting thought!! He is not like me, so easily downcast and discouraged. Namely God is joyful, and happy simply because of who He is. Joy comes from experiencing delight and satisfaction in the pleasure, perfections and excellent qualities of a certain thing or person. God can be eternally joyful and happy, soley because He is who He is. He is the source of all joy, happiness and beauty. He is the possessor and giver of all good things. He alone is holy, self sufficient, all powerful, faithful, just, love, mercy, grace, truth, all knowing, all present, eternal, uncreated, and there is none to whom we can compare Him. He is Light and the Fountain of Life. The beginning and the end. One God, three Divine persons in perfect eternal fellowship. We can say that if God had never created the world which we know He would still be who He is and He would still be an infinite spring of unending delight. The Lord is not some cold, frozen, emotionless ruler such as the statues and idol of the unbelieving. He has not been bored for all of eternity past nor with a frown upon His face, (using human terms). But rather enjoying an eternal celebration of unmeasurable rapture and unending bliss within Himself. When an earthly ruler, or even common person demands more attention and praise to themselves than deserved others are offended. And rightly so if the praise demanded is more than deserved. But unlike an earthly ruler God is infinitely worthy of all praise, worship soley deserving to be delighted in. What a gift it is to be created in order to worship and delight in a God of unending worthiness and joy!! And to be created in such a way so that we find only true joy and meaning in worshiping and knowing Him!!
