Challenging Choice: Jesus or Possessions?
March 17, 2011
Sana now follows Jesus, but she may have to forfeit her home and businesswhich she wanted to keep for her son, Omprakash.
Sana Chopra lost her husband a few years ago, and now she might lose the business and home he built for them. Sana and her 7-year-old son Omprakash had money from the business and were living comfortably. But even though Sana had possessions, she had no peace.
Sana had little support from her community because she was a widow. Many times she or her son became sick, but no one helped them.
In September 2009, things changed. A spark of hope ignited when a Gospel for Asia-supported film team, led by Dempa Lanarpe, came to her village.
Dempa and his team wanted to show the Man of Mercy film on the life of Christ, but the villagers refused to allow them.
Sana wanted to see the film, so she invited the missionaries to her house to show the movie. The missionaries excitedly went with her and explained what the movie was about.
They also told her that if she continues to embrace Christianity, she will have to leave the village.
Sana listened eagerly as the missionaries shared about Jesus Christ, and then she watched Christ's life unfold on the screen.
Although the film team returned to their homes after the screening, the seeds they planted grew. About one year later, Sana called Dempa and told him she had decided to follow Jesus Christ. She stopped making sacrifices to the gods she once honored and started worshiping Jesus instead.
When her neighbors saw her new lifestyle, they laughed at her and insulted her. They also told her that if she continues to embrace Christianity, she will have to leave the village.
Unless the situation changes, Sana will have to give up her home and business if she continues to follow Jesus.
Please pray that Sana and her son will not abandon their faith but will continue to grow spiritually. Pray she will be able to keep the home and business, and her neighbors will open their hearts to Jesus, too.
