 A 'New' Hymn

Reality

Strike us, O Lord, with reality today
Strike us, O Lord, allow no thought to stray
There’s no greater need we have in this world
There’s nothing more needed than reality unfurled

Confront us, O Lord, with reality today
Confront us, O Lord, ‘til there's nothing to say
Til no breath’s left in us, no excuses to make
Confront us, Dear Jesus, the dead soul to wake

Invade us, O Lord, with reality today
Invade us, O Lord, so there’s no other way
Surround us completely, leave no place to hide
Invade us, O Captain, and slaughter our pride

Condemn us, O Lord, with reality today
Condemn us, O Lord, with Your Law we do pray
Convince us so soundly we’ve sinned ‘gainst You, God
That all we can do is to cry, “Ichabod”*

Crucify us, with Reality today
Crucify us, for there’s no other way
The things that we hate are the things that we’ve done
And our only escape is the death of the Son

Revive us, O Lord, with reality today
Revive us, O Lord, with Your Spirit we pray
The night is far spent and the Day is at hand
So put off the darkness and don the new man

(*Ichabod*- means “The glory has departed”)

I was really blessed by this hymn! thanks for sharing it brother Josh. Theres something about divine truth (reality) that cuts us down and in some way slays us! may we all be dead to self and alive to Christ.

Re: The Reality is that we're mainly sleeping

Great hymn brother Josh. I think we're sleeping and that's why we're so disconnected to "reality." (Ephesians 5:14b "Awake, O sleeper, rise up from the dead, and Christ will give you light.

Jesus would you wake up your body? Without the quickening of your spirit, the modern church will experience "Ichabod" and not realize that the glory of the Lord has already departed. Wake us up!

 Re:

Ephesians 5:14 is a scripture the Lord has been reminding me of ALOT lately. Amen, Gideons.

Jesus needs to come and take us by the hand. We're the little girl (12 years old, on the dawn of our maturing and being married to our Groom) that is lying 'asleep' in the house. And the only thing that will awaken us is the hand of Jesus taking ours and the voice of Jesus saying, "Maid, arise."

 Re:

Amen brother. Here's another verse that your thread brought to my spirit and I've been thinking a lot about this lately as well from Habakkuk 3.

2 O LORD, I have heard thy speech, and was afraid: O LORD, revive thy work in the midst of the years, in the midst of the years make known; in wrath remember mercy.

Yes, Lord revive your work in the midst of the years (as long as we're alive we're in the midst of the years). In wrath (God's judgement of sin), remember mercy (this is talking about revival in the midst of God's judgment).

In our church, we've been praying for God's judgement to come on sin in order to bring repentance. That's the cry of my heart these days...

 Re: A 'New' Hymn

Wow.
Could our praise band play this, Josh?
And if so, could you send chords and/or tabs? Cool...
If you are gigging and making a living, I understand. Tks.

Brother Josh is an open-air preacher and he was given the words to this hymn by the Lord. In most cases in hymn writing history the tune is not given to the words but rather the Lord will give the words to the writer and then after accompaining music is added. Josh sang it accapela during an park open-air service, I still need to get the sermon up, you can hear him sing it in the recording.
