Broken BreadDaily Devotions from the Daily Lightby Evan HopkinsJune 17In every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be made known unto God.--Phil. 4:6The apostle warns against anxiety. "Be careful for nothing." Be not anxious concerning anything--"but in everything by prayer." This is one of the means by which to guard against worry. Turn your trouble or anxiety into prayer. Let it be definite and specific. Let it be earnest and full of praise. The remembrance of past mercies will not only strengthen our faith and lead us to expect future blessings--it will help us to be more real and childlike in prayer. A special promise belongs to this precept, and follows it immediately: "And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." It is vain we pray to be kept, if we neglect to obey the Lord's direction. The burden and cares that come upon us daily we must commit to the Lord daily. It is as we fulfill the conditions that we shall find the truth of the promise. God will surely fulfill His own undertaking, but He expects us to be obedient to His will.
