 Singing the Scriptures

Has anyone heard anyone who sings the scriptures. I know many of the praise songs of the 70s 80s were a verse or two of scripture, but I love hearing a whole chapter or better yet the whole book in one listen. A few years back I recorded the book of James on my laptop and have found that this is an effective way to memorize the scriptures. I find that it also helps me approach the Bible from a new angle. For example, Romans 16 never really grabbed me, but after singing it, I was struck with the fact that Paul added all those names because he loved the people and the good work that God was doing in their lives. I could have gotten the "textbook answer," but singing it helped me feel the passion that Paul wrote with.

Well, if you know of any other straight scripture singers I'd love to know of them. I've been blessed by Jason Harms' website and the professionalism that he aims for while proclaiming Christ through his music. http://www.jasonharms.com/home.html

I've added some of my scripture songs onto Jamendo so that others can hear them...but I think the best is singing the scriptures yourself! http://www.jamendo.com/en/album/44124 I am excited to hear of any other scripture singers out there. Josh

 Re: Singing the Scriptures

Hello,

That sounds like a worthwhile project.

I have been singing one piece of scripture to myself for many years.

Quote:
1 Peter 4:12: Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: 13: But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.

It has always sustained me to hold before my eyes the fact that there will be trials, and often unexpected ones.

Hopefully I will be able to get time to listen to how you go about your vocalizations. I put mine to a little melody that seemed to fit it, I can't say for a fact that God gave it to me, but I do not ever remember hearing it other than in my 'song.' It doesn't matter, what matters is I am singing His Word and keeping it in my heart.

Regards,
White Stone

I personally have found that the Scriptures I have remembered easily have been through song. Bless your continuing endeavour to hide His Word in your heart.
