SI Bible

Maybe someone has a solution for my problem, but the idea still is in the air.

Being in South Korea and so far from English texts, especially Bibles (unless you consider the plethora of overpriced NIVs), I find it quite expensive to give out bibles, including my hope to send them to family and friends.

Why doesn't SI (Greg) have a Bible page? Could there be a section for various translations (more so languages) that are printable? I know a while back I asked for a French translation and no one was able to respond.

I am not sure how this would work exactly, even if it could, but I would like to be able to print larger quantities of Bibles...

Another thought would be to have the Bibles divided by country, so that if we have brothers and sisters around the world, we could donate money to help them print bundles of books.

I am not suggesting that for me, but I am sure there are missionaries who are not 'working' and have limited resources.

Anyway, I'd like to have more bibles but not at $20-$30 a pop. I contacted Gideon and they said I must be working for a particular ministry.

Let me know if you have any solution or ideas.

You may want to give Christianbook.com a call. I was flipping through a catalog of theirs recently, and came across some Bible's that were $1 and for evangelism purposes. You also may want to contact individual Bible translation publishers and ask them if they have anything they print for evangelism purposes. Sometimes some of these companies will help you out if you are looking for a simple paper back copy of their book.

Brian,

I have friends that go to Singapore every year for a mission trip to just hand out Bibles at the airport to the vacationing Chinese. I will contact them to see where they get their Bibles.

(According to my memory of hearing their story!)... One year they had a man come from the opposite end of the airport with tears in his eyes asking, "Are those Chinese Bibles you're handing out?" And they said, "Yes." He asked, "May I have one? I've heard about them but never had one and I've prayed for years to find a one." They have never forgotten that man or the fact that the Lord showed them how important what they were doing was!!!!

God bless you Brian!

My friends go to Taiwan, not Singapore! and they use the Asian Bible Society but I didn't see any Bibles on their web page.

For the Bible in many different languages, online and to order, check out Ethnic Harvest.

Interesting that you're in South Korea. We had a brother from there in our church here for a year, studying spanish. He just left to go back home and will be working to spread the Gospel as a missionary.

 Re: Korean or English Bibles

I hope I'm not breaking any rules about advertising, but I have bought bibles from Amazon.com for delivery to Germany. With the weaker dollar and better prices this saved a lot.

Currently, they have some cheap NKJV for $2.99 with the cost of shipping an order $4.99 and an additional $4.99 per item (for slow delivery). So if you bought 5 bibles each would cost you $9. There may be import duty as well which might affect the economics. (And for a couple extra dollars, you would probably get a nicer bible).

For smaller quantities I have found this cost effective. The bible societies don't seem to have cheap shipping rates outside of their home countries. Of course, if you can get them free, that would be a lot cheaper :-)

For downloadable bibles, the simplest is to do a Google search for a PDF version of the bible you are interested in. The KJV/AV will be easy to find; others less so, and with any modern version one must consider the copyright issue.

I have also sometimes copied the content into Excel and manipulated it within that software. With innovative use of text to column and sorting it is normally possible to create something very useful. It also allows one to create one's own side by side version, or verse by verse interlinear.

I normally find printing my own bibles is not worth it, simply because typical printer paper is much thicker than bible paper and the font size has to be a reasonable size.

You can find a compressed downloadable PDF version of the 1910 French bible here: French Louis Segond I have been playing with the code, but as we can no longer preview, I'm not sure it will work okay.

 Re: French version

And you will also find Word versions of the French Darby bible here: French Darby. The complete Word version is about half way down the page.

 Re: SI Bible

Here's a download of a Korean Bible. Because I'm in a library, I don't have admin rights to download and look at it, so I hope it's useful, even as an attachment to send to other people's computers.

Brian, I didn't check out their 'terms of use' here.
