SECRET POLICE RAID HOME PRAYER MEETING IN UZBEKISTAN

Police and National Security Service secret police recently raided a prayer meeting of the Greater Grace Church in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, claiming there is “no need for Christian churches there.”
Church members were meeting in a home when police burst in without a warrant, began filming those present and confiscated Bibles and private notebooks. Several police officers in the raid identified themselves as Muslims and told the Christians that there is “no need” for any Christians or members of other faiths in Uzbekistan.
There are strict registration requirements for religious minorities in Uzbekistan, and Christian churches are rarely granted official permits, even when they do meet requirements. Christians must usually meet for worship illegally and face possible prosecution if discovered. Members of unregistered churches continue to face interrogations, fines, raids and discrimination.
