Forgive me if what I'm going to say has already been said, I have not read through this whole thread.

There is the gift of prophecy(1 Cor. 12-14), but I do not believe there are prophets like John the Baptist, etc. around today.

I believe the Bible shows that in Matt. 11:13, Luke 16:16, and Heb. 1-2.

This is something fairly new to me, so if I'm wrong, I would love to hear some other views.

There are prophets around but there calling is not on the same level as John Baptist. When I say level I mean calling what they have been sent for.

What the need in the church is for a John the Baptist/Elijah type prophet to come. When he comes there will be no hiding him as a great move of God will also come.

1 Kings 18:21 And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.

Elijah came to challenge Gods people so the people would turn back to God.

1 Kings 18:30 And Elijah said unto all the people, Come near unto me. And all the people came near unto him. And he repaired the altar of the Lord that was broken down.

When the fire fell the people saw it and cried the out Elijah or "The Lord He is God". Even the prophets name meant what God was going to do through this man life. But the people turned back to the Lord. Elijah name means The Lord He is God

1 Kings 18:39 And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces: and they said, The LORD, he is the God; the LORD, he is the God.

John the Baptist he came to prepare the way for the Lord. What does that mean to prepare away for the Lord. I beleieve this

Luke 1:16-17 And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God.
And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.

Know we can see the same calling here as was on Elijah, the way that God was going to prepare his people or turn them back to worship God. John was going to prepare a people for the Lord.

Know some might disagree that A Prophet like these men will come again but I believe he must come again to prepare a people again, just as Jesus will come again.

Also if we look at John's name or the meaning of his name you find it means Grace to you and that was what Gods message to us through this man Grace to you.

Know as we fast approach the end of the age we should be looking for a prophet to appear again. He will come to prepare a people. Is there anything in the bible to tell us what they are to be prepare for well of course Jesus coming back but is there anything else. In this current state the church Gods people are not ready for the days ahead God will send his man to prepare us so we can overcome the antichrist and be prepared for Jesus coming back as he is coming back for a church with out spot or wrinkle.

Rev 15:2 And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God

Here we see a people in heaven that have come off victorious (Overcomers). God through this prophet is going to preapre a people that are going to be victorious over the beast, image and his mark. I beleive that the next Move of God thats coming will be the one that this work will be done in his people.

So my young friend you might just get a chance to meet a man like John/Elijah and his name will mean victorious people because this is the work God desires to do in his people and it's God message to his people through the prophet. That we will come off victorious over the beast, image and his mark.

God is good and his mercy endures forever.

 Re: Prophets alive today?

Rom 10:16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, "Lord, who has believed our report?"
Maybe we have come across a prophet and have not recognized him as one, though we recognize his blessing!?
Maybe like Melchizedek, his ministry was just a couple of sentence.
Apart from the scriptures who has recorded the prophets. Were they not hidden and addressing only those whom they were called to address?
maybe there are prophets that we are unable to identify becuse like John, they have decreased and Christ has increased.
The prophetic word as brother Paul has said is the word from God, meeting the need of man. it is the right word for the right time.
In the flesh there is great desire to hear futuristic prophesy, yet the prophetic voice of the Church, that Christ will come again has become a din that we have got used to. For it is said that he who truly recieves this will purify himself as HE is pure.
Yes we crave for some sort of sensationalism. We thing every body who can predict the future is from God!? And yes when we seek things other than knowing Christ, how easily we can be led to deception.
Deu 13:1 If a prophet rises among you, or a dreamer of dreams, and gives you a sign or a wonder,
Deu 13:2 and the sign or the wonder which he foretold to you occurs, saying, Let us go after other gods which you have not known, and let us serve them,
Deu 13:3 you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams. For Jehovah your God is testing you to know whether you love Jehovah your God with all your heart and with all your soul.
Deu 13:4 You shall walk after Jehovah your God and fear Him, and keep His commandments, and obey His voice, and you shall serve Him and hold fast to Him.
Was not Jonah a prophet and yet his prophetic word against Nineveh did not come to pass. But it did address the need and brought people to repentance.
If we walk with God and surrender our body to God daily, we too can walk with a prophetic word on our lips. It is the surrendered tongue that God uses. Trust God and He will make this so in our life. This is the good news that we can walk as Jesus walked.
1Co 12:31 But zealously strive after the better gifts. And yet I show to you a more excellent way.
1Co 13:13 And now faith, hope, charity, these three remain; but the greatest of these is charity.

Brother Murrclr - what if he already came?

I don't follow "a man" or lift any up, but consider that David Wilkerson wrote "The Vision" in 1974, which would be 35 yr.s ago.
And "Set the Trumpet to thy mouth" in 1985.
By 1977 "The Vision" was in it's 12th printing.
He later joined forces with Brother Ravenhill and Keith Green - contributing to Keith's "Last Days News Letter", in the early-mid 80's.

Look at David's biography some day - as to 'when' he was called to 'that city' NYC - and that his subtitle is "America is Modern Babylon" in "Set the Trumpet to thy mouth" on page 3 and said in that 1985 book on page 17 that "America will Not Repent".

That man has all but sweat blood and he knows his time is short, as someone had posted this - listen to his words closely and his hints and hesitations in this first link and the titles of the others in the second link.

From his sermon index:

We believe we are in the last of the days - IN the "strong delusion" 2Thess 2 now and anti-Christ is about to appear at any time.

There is no more time for that type voice - except from the overcomers - who have the testimony of Jesus which is the spirit of prophecy.

Just my strong view - but I won't contend over it.
Thank you & GOD Bless.

Since bringing up Leonard Ravenhill, I thought that Allan would like to read what he had to say.

Could someone tell me what year Brother Ravenhill wrote this?

Thank you all.

Picture of a Prophet

The prophet in his day is fully accepted of God and totally rejected by men.

"Years back, Dr. Gregory Mantle was right when he said, "No man can be fully accepted until he is totally rejected." The prophet of the Lord is aware of both these experiences. They are his "brand name."

The group, challenged by the prophet because they are smug and comfortably insulated from a perishing world in their warm but untested theology, is not likely to vote him "Man of the year" when he refers to them as habituates of the synagogue of Satan!

The prophet comes to set up that which is upset. His work is to call into line those who are out of line! He is unpopular because he opposes the popular in morality and spirituality. In a day of faceless politicians and voiceless preachers, there is not a more urgent national need than that we cry to God for a prophet! The function of the prophet, as Austin-Sparks once said, "has almost always been that of recovery."

The prophet is God's detective seeking for a lost treasure. The degree of his effectiveness is determined by his measure of unpopularity. Compromise is not known to him.
He has no price tags.
He is totally "otherworldly."
He is unquestionably controversial and unpardonably hostile.
He marches to another drummer!
He breathes the rarefied air of inspiration.
He is a "seer" who comes to lead the blind.
He lives in the heights of God and comes into the valley with a "thus saith
the Lord."
He shares some of the foreknowledge of God and so is aware of
impending judgment.
He lives in "splendid isolation."
He is forthright and outright, but he claims no birthright.
His message is "repent, be reconciled to God or else...!"
His prophecies are parried.
His truth brings torment, but his voice is never void.
He is the villain of today and the hero of tomorrow.
He is excommunicated while alive and exalted when dead!
He is dishonored with epithets when breathing and honored with
epitaphs when dead.
He is a schoolmaster to bring us to Christ, but few "make the grade" in his class.
He is friendless while living and famous when dead.
He is against the establishment in ministry; then he is established as a saint
by posterity.
He eats daily the bread of affliction while he ministers, but he feeds the Bread of
Life to those who listen.
He walks before men for days but has walked before God for years.
He is a scourge to the nation before he is scourged by the nation.
He announces, pronounces, and denounces!
He has a heart like a volcano and his words are as fire.
He talks to men about God.
He carries the lamp of truth amongst heretics while he is lampooned by men.
He faces God before he faces men, but he is self-effacing.
He hides with God in the secret place, but he has nothing to hide in
the marketplace.
He is naturally sensitive but supernaturally spiritual.
He has passion, purpose and pugnacity.
He is ordained of God but disdained by men.

Our national need at this hour is not that the dollar recover its strength, or that we save face over the Watergate affair, or that we find the answer to the ecology problem. We need a God-sent prophet!

I am bombarded with talk or letters about the coming shortages in our national life: bread, fuel, energy. I read between the lines from people not practiced in scaring folk. They feel that the "seven years of plenty" are over for us. The "seven years of famine" are ahead. But the greatest famine of all in this nation at this given moment is a FAMINE OF THE HEARING OF THE WORDS OF GOD (Amos 8:11).

Millions have been spent on evangelism in the last twenty-five years. Hundreds of gospel messages streak through the air over the nation every day. Crusades have been held; healing meetings have made a vital contribution. "Come-outers" have "come out" and settled, too, without a nation-shaking revival. Organizers we have. Skilled preachers abound. Multi-million dollar Christian organizations straddle the nation. BUT where, oh where, is the prophet? Where are the incandescent men fresh from the holy place? Where is the Moses to plead in fasting before the holiness of the Lord for our moldy morality, our political perfidy, and sour and sick spirituality?

GOD'S MEN ARE IN HIDING UNTIL THE DAY OF THEIR SHOWING FORTH. They will come. The prophet is violated during his ministry, but he is vindicated by history.

There is a terrible vacuum in evangelical Christianity today. The missing person in our ranks is the prophet. The man with a terrible earnestness. The man totally otherworldly. The man rejected by other men, even other good men, because they consider him too austere, too severely committed, too negative and unsociable.

Let him be as plain as John the Baptist.
Let him for a season be a voice crying in the wilderness of modern theology and
stagnant "churchianity."
Let him be as selfless as Paul the apostle.
Let him, too, say and live, "This ONE thing I do."
Let him reject ecclesiastical favors.
Let him be self-abasing, nonself-seeking, nonself-projecting, nonself- righteous,
nonself-glorying, nonself-promoting.
Let him say nothing that will draw men to himself but only that which will move
men to God.
Let him come daily from the throne room of a holy God, the place where he has
received the order of the day.
Let him, under God, unstop the ears of the millions who are deaf through the
clatter of shekels milked from this hour of material mesmerism.
Let him cry with a voice this century has not heard because he has seen a vision
no man in this century has seen. God send us this Moses to lead us from the
wilderness of crass materialism, where the rattlesnakes of lust bite us and where
enlightened men, totally blind spiritually, lead us to an ever-nearing Armageddon.

God have mercy! Send us PROPHETS!"

I thought about this too when reading this thread earlier. God bless you brother, may we all be sober to the evil day in which we live.

Just start listening to Davids sermon. I will listen to it but want to post this first. The First statement David makes is this "GOD IS ALWAYS ON TIME".

You said in your post there is no more time for that type of voice. I would strongly disagree with that statement because there is more than enough time.

Gen 18:14 Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.

What happened before was that the Lord appeared to Abraham and basically told Abraham that he was going to have son. Sarah overhead this from outside the tent and laughed at the thought of having a child at an old age. The Lord then asks why did she laugh and gooes on stay "Is any thing too hard for the LORD?"

Abraham was not only going to have a child he was going to be a great and mighty nation and in him all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him.

As we go on a few chapters we see that Sarah did have a child.

Gen 21:2 For Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him.

At the set time what I am trying to get you to grasp is "time". There are set times and God works in those times that he has set. What we have to be on guard for is the Devil telling us a lie that we don't have enough time. If we believe the lie that we have not got enough time and we go before we should go then we get out from under Gods protection and it's then game season and we are the game.

Look at the words the Lord uses "Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will" Nothing is to hard for him he will raise up a voice again in this generation.

Know I will continue to listen to David Wilkerson

Dear Brother Murrcolr, I know you're excited and I'm excited too - in a Great way - but in your excitement, you didn't finish my sentence.

You spoke of what sounded to me like Malachi 3 of the Elijah type that would be "a" man. [singular] You said "a" man a number of times.

I suggested we look at the life, words, ministry and the location of "a" man, in reply.

You stopped at my words "no time" and left off this --- "except from the overcomers - who have the testimony of Jesus which is the spirit of prophecy."

IF in fact we are in the time period that we believe we are - that would mean the strong delusion is pouring out and readying the way for the Anti-Christ.

We've had David Wilkerson for at least since the 1950's but after slaving in NYC and starting Teen-Challenge etc, he wrote the book the Vision in 1974.
Later the name of his ministry in Texas changed to "World Challenge" and after he wrote "Set the Trumpet to thy mouth" he moved back to NYC to start TSC. Amazing!

35 years of non-stop yelling out since The Vision. In fact, back in the 80's, I'd hear someone "yelling" in my spouse's den and I'd think "What on earth is that?" - so I'd go to see and then smile - it was a DW tape playing and he was even saying that his wife Gwene suggested he not yell.

Now he doesn't yell.

My finished sentence again ... "..except from the overcomers - who have the testimony of Jesus which is the spirit of prophecy."
Daniel said, they will do exploits and will win many to righteousness, but also all of that during the reign of anti-Christ. Even those of understanding will fall to try them - etc.
I pray this makes you feel better. It's going to be very very hard - and most of us will lose our lives in this process of being witnesses for HIM - but GLORY TO GOD - Read Rev 20:4-6. Alleluia - how honored to be called by HIM to be 'that' generation. GLORY TO OUR LIVING SAVIOR & GOD.
And I hope you enjoy the TSC messages.

I think you would enjoy listening to Zac Poonen's sermon series on Prophets and Prophesying.

In case you don't know who he is, he is a very balanced man of God who has been studying the Bible for almost 50 years but like he says he doesn't study it to preach a sermon, he studies it to know Christ!! I wish there were more like him.

God bless,
