 What y'all do for Christmas

Hey everybody,

Hope you've had/are having a great Christmas. It's boxing day over in NZ where I'm writing this.

We had a great day yesterday with in laws for lunch and joined aunties, uncles and cousins for dinner, games( I particularly enjoy running around with me younger cousins), and a bit of carolling last night.

Seems economic times are opening up some of the relatives, which is possibly the start of some answers to prayer. We still need many more in roads for sharing the gospel to a religiously diverse family but praise God things are happening!

Anyone else had any jolly exeriences to share.

God bless,

Mikey

Re: What y'all do for Christmas

Last night we had some friends come over for an evening of fellowship. We sang Christmas carols, quoted poetry, prayed together, and rejoiced in the great salvation that we have in Jesus Christ.

This morning we had a special breakfast together as a family along with a few visiting friends. This afternoon all 10 of us headed over to our elderly neighbors to sing Christmas carols and play music on our instruments for them. They seemed greatly touched by the music and the wife said it was the best Christmas gift she had ever received. And I must say that doing something like that is really one of the best things to do on Christmas. :)

Tonight we'll have our family gathering and I'm sure we'll sing more Christmas carols and my dad will read the account of Christ's coming.

Right now we're listening to A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, a Radio Theatre production, you can listen to it on www.focusonthefamily.com today.

Merry Christmas! :-)

Leviticus 19:31, God says "Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them. I am the LORD your God."

Leviticus 20:6 "I will set my face against the person who turns to mediums and spiritists to prostitute himself by following them, and I will cut him off from his people."

Deuteronomy 18:10-12, "Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD, and because of these detestable practices the LORD your God will drive out those nations before you."

1 Samuel 28:6-20
6And when Saul enquired of the LORD, the LORD answered him not, neither by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophets.

7Then said Saul unto his servants, Seek me a woman that hath a familiar spirit, that I may go to her, and enquire of her. And his servants said to him, Behold, there is a woman that hath a familiar spirit at Endor.

8And Saul disguised himself, and put on other raiment, and he went, and two men with him, and they came to the woman by night: and he said, I pray thee, divine unto me by the familiar spirit, and bring me him up, whom I shall name unto thee.

9And the woman said unto him, Behold, thou knowest what Saul hath done, how he hath cut off those that have familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land: wherefore then layest thou a snare for my life, to cause me to die?

10And Saul sware to her by the LORD, saying, As the LORD liveth, there shall no punishment happen to thee for this thing.

11Then said the woman, Whom shall I bring up unto thee? And he said, Bring me up Samuel.

12And when the woman saw Samuel, she cried with a loud voice: and the woman spake to Saul, saying, Why hast thou deceived me? for thou art Saul.

13And the king said unto her, Be not afraid: for what sawest thou? And the woman said unto Saul, I saw gods ascending out of the earth.

14And he said unto her, What form is he of? And she said, An old man cometh up; and he is covered with a mantle. And Saul perceived that it was Samuel, and he stooped with his face to the ground, and bowed himself.

15And Samuel said to Saul, Why hast thou disquieted me, to bring me up? And Saul answered, I am sore distressed; for the Philistines make war against me, and God is departed from me, and answereth me no more, neither by prophets, nor by dreams: therefore I have called thee, that thou mayest make known unto me what I shall do.

16Then said Samuel, Wherefore then dost thou ask of me, seeing the LORD is departed from thee, and is become thine enemy?

17And the LORD hath done to him, as he spake by me: for the LORD hath rent the kingdom out of thine hand, and given it to thy neighbour, even to David:

18Because thou obeyedst not the voice of the LORD, nor executedst his fierce wrath upon Amalek, therefore hath the LORD done this thing unto thee this day.

19Moreover the LORD will also deliver Israel with thee into the hand of the Philistines: and to morrow shalt thou and thy sons be with me: the LORD also shall deliver the host of Israel into the hand of the Philistines.

20Then Saul fell straightway all along on the earth, and was sore afraid, because of the words of Samuel: and there was no strength in him; for he had eaten no bread all the day, nor all the night.

To add to that I quote:

I have endeavoured in this Ghostly little book, to raise the Ghost of an Idea, which shall not put my readers out of humour with themselves, with each other, with the season, or with me. May it haunt their houses pleasantly, and no one wish to lay it.

Their faithful Friend and Servant,
C. D.

December, 1843.

Thank you for enlightening us. Never cared for the story or for listening to it, now I understand why. Praise the Lord.

 Re:

Roniya, sounds to me like your family had a wonderful day! Do not ever take this blessing for granted - it is a blessing from God - the blessing is that your family can worship HIM together in this manner and enjoy it and each other. This is wonderful.

Today was a quiet day for us - most of our families are gone and we are left to our lonely selves, but that will change in a couple days when our oldest son and his family plan to come. And then our other boys will come as well and we will celebrate on New Year's day.

Since it was a quiet day for us, I sat down and read the book "Home for Christmas" by Lloyd C. Douglas, copyrighted 1935. I love this book - having read it many times. It is simply a fun book and so realistic. I can well imagine my mother's family acting like those people...

Have a blessed Holy Day, y'all!

 Re:

Hello...!

My wife's sister (with her husband and two small children, "Carlitos and Nahum") came to California from South Texas. We "celebrated" Christmas (dinner, reading the Scriptures, gifts, etc...) on Christmas Eve (last night). This morning, we woke up and ate, talked, laughed so hard that we cried, and then traveled to Lake Tahoe -- leaving Palo Alto at about noon. We were excited to show the boys some snow. We played in the snow today, and right now, we are in the hotel. We are going to spend tomorrow playing in the snow, building snow men, sledding and creating snow angels. We might stay another night too.

It has been great to have family here for the holiday!

This place is spectacularly beautiful! I simply cannot understand how someone can see the beauty of these snow covered mountains and still not believe in God (as a result of his workmanship)!

Happy Christmas to all of you!
