Revival of Evangelical Truth
by Greg Gordon

It was a great privilege to see Greg Gordon preaching at Southall Church of God on 08/11/2008. He is the founder of “Sermon Index” website which we are all aware of. God had really blessed his ministry to reach out to the lost as well as believers. He passionately shared the message “revival of evangelical truth” and here are some of the points he made about today’s church ministry.

In the past, truth had been spread all over the world, but this truth is missing in the church today. God has left us to alone with our devices because we are trying to do something without consultation of God. We do not really rely upon Him for guidance.

What the devil has done to church ministry
The devil has raised people who would preach the word without any power and authority. Most of the preachers now ignore preaching about sin and the law of God, justice of God, but they would preach about prosperity and positive preaching. Ten Commandments have been taken out from the gospel. There is very little preaching of Gods perfect law.

People are dying due to the lack of knowledge
Greg mentioned that spiritual death is due to the lack of knowledge of the word of God. Reading the Bible every day, attending the church every Sunday does not guarantee one salvation. Let us look the at the difference between the old church and the present church. In the old church we see how the preacher would terrify people with the preaching of “Gods Law” and in the new modern day church preachers aim to preach the positive sermons about love and grace. It is not wrong but we are missing something in the preaching that would make sinners bow down before God for “repentance”.

Greg Gordon talked about one incident when he skipped all the soft verses and spoke versus which stated anger and judgement of God. He named them “hard verses” because people had a problem swallowing these verses. Let us gaze at the word of God regarding this matter.

“that this is a rebellious people, lying children, children who will not hear the law of the Lord; who say to the seers,” Do not see,” and to the prophets,” Do not prophesy to us right things speak to us smooth things, prophesy deceits. – Isaiah 30:9-10

Character of Christ in old testament and in book of Revelation
We think we know all about Jesus, we do not realise how majestic, mighty and glorified is the character of Jesus Christ in the Old Testament, Epistles and in Revelation; and when John saw His glory, he fell on his feet as a dead man.

“And in the midst of the seven lampstands One like the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the feet and girded about the chest with a golden band. His head and His hair were while wool, as white as snow, and His eyes like a flame of fire; His feet were like fine brass, as if refined in furnace, and His voice as the sound of many waters.” – The Revelations 1:13-15

Justice of God
We only hear that God loves His people, cares for us, wants to benefit us and the impression we get from sinners is that God loves them and will never harm them or send them to hell. This is false teaching because God will judge everyone on the day of judgement. God judges every little sin. Sinners are rebellious because they all hate God and we do not hear about words like sin and repentance in the sermons because preachers do not want to condemn people. People say God will not judge them or hurt them for their sin.

Two types of Gospel
There are two types of gospel; old and new gospel (rrue and false). The old gospel talks about “repentance” and the new talks about “forgiveness”. There is nothing wrong with the new gospel but revival will not come until both gospels are preached with power and conviction. Revival will only come when we ask God for interpretation of the Bible. We also need the spirit of God to preach Christ as it is ought to be preached.

The Cross being preached looks really small in the new gospel. It does not seem glorious, awesome and it doesn’t seem worthy to give your whole life for. It is like a stepping stone to get to God because He is not holy. It is all wrong because God is a Holy God and we need to paint a picture of how sinful and wicked we are before God and in reality how impossible it is to be saved.

The condition of man and our only hope which is God
Ezekiel 16

Ephesians 2:1-4

Revival comes from God
Revival comes only from God. Instead of engineering the revival through our works we must rely upon God and ask God for His revival amongst us because it will only happen through His grace.

Re: Revival of Evangelical Truth by Greg Gordon

This is great insight greg into what the modern day gospel offers over the established biblical Gospel that we find presented to us in the book of Romans by the Apostle Paul. Thanks for posting this God bless.
