 Looking Upward in a Storm ~ William Cowper

God of my life, to Thee I call,
Afflicted at Thy feet I fall;
When the great water-floods prevail,
Leave not my trembling heart to fail!

Friend of the friendless and the faint,
Where should I lodge my deep complaint,
Where but with Thee, whose open door
Invites the helpless and the poor!

Did ever mourner plead with Thee,
And Thou refuse the mourner's plea?
Does not the word still fix'd remain,
That none shall seek Thy face in vain?

That were a grief I could not bear,
Didst Thou not hear and answer prayer:
But a prayer-hearing, answering God
Supports me under every load.

Fair is the lot that's cast for me;
I have an Advocate with Thee;
They whom the world caresses most
Have no such privilege to boast.

Poor though I am, despised, forgot,
Yet God, my God, forgets me not:
And he is safe, and must succeed,
For whom the Lord vouchsafes to plead.

Amen! What comforting words. Thank you for sharing them, Danielle. It's good to see a post from you. :)

Just what I needed to read tonight dear sister.

I can never have enough reminders that I am not the only one that suffers adversities and are they not appointed to all His children?

It is amazing how the enemy can often convince you that God has it out for you. You always hear it loudest when that final last jab hits.

I am so blessed by Brother Wilkerson's statement about the battles. The last half hour is the longest.(something like that) Glory to God there must be quite a victory ahead.:)

I have been in a test that has lasted for 2 years. It has tested every fiber of my trust.

One day when satan was pressing me pretty hard, I was doing my best to resist him as the Bible says we should. But it was getting worse. It dawned on me that even though I was trying to resist him, I was still focussing on his lies.

I stopped and went to God and asked that He would speak. He did, and when He did, it dispelled the lies. I learned a very valuable lesson that day.

Where I had believed I was to resist satan in order to get close to God, I learned that by getting close to God, we resist satan. It has worked well for me.

James 4:7,8
Submit yourselves, then to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you.
