Seven Days for Our Nation!

Saints,

God is raising up many groups to call for fasting and prayer in North America. I just talked with another dear brother that has a heart to see revival come to America.

from the site:

Why pray and fast during Sept 28th to Oct 4th? “Is this not the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens and to let the oppressed go free? and that ye break every yoke?” Isaiah 58:6. Throughout the Bible, fasting was an important part of the believer’s life. God’s people often prayed and fasted when they wanted to seek God’s will, ask for His forgiveness or faced difficult times. Who among us can deny that our nation is in very, very difficult times?
We should not believe nor accept that God is finished with America.

The founders of our nation believed that God made a covenant with them concerning America. We were the New Jerusalem, a Shining City on a hill. If a thousand years is as a single day, (Psalm 90:4) then is not the covenant only a few hours old?

Re: Seven Days for Our Nation!

When I read this, and saw the word fasting in it, I thought ...well, maybe I won't say what I thought.

But, it is a need, there has to be some sacrifice in our walk, and in our desire to see God move in our nations.

7 days would only be the beginning.

God bless.

 Isaiah 58 on Fasting

I had read this earlier today and it flipped my understanding of fasting upside down... I always thought about fasting as 'abstaining from something,' but it seems like God's idea of fasting is more like 'commiting yourself to care for others.' This almost works like an 'if/then' proposition, if we align ourselves with God's heart towards other people, then... Revival.

I marked the verbs in the first couple verses, the verbs are a little more compelling in some modern translations. But since I know I would be dropkicked for making any biblical references in anything but the KJV, here we go:

Isaiah 58
6 Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?

7 Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?

8 Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD shall be thy reward.

9 Then shalt thou call, and the LORD shall answer; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am. If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity;

10 And if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noon day:

11 And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.

12 And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in.

 Re: Isaiah 58 on Fasting

I just realized that verse 6 was used in the original post -yay for reading every post word for word... anyways, I still stand by my original statement =)

Most American Christians could stand doing a 40 day fast -just for health reasons... but I'd like to see more people fast in the ways listed in Isaiah 58:6-7.

Edit: I just realized that for the last three days I have had a CCEL page open in a tab on my firefox browser: http://www.ccel.org/ccel/schaff/anf01.vi.ii.iii.html

I think God is trying to tell me to fast.
