O for a glance of heavenly day - title of the hymn is a bit misleading

just found this amazing hymn this morning, what a prayer...esp the last verse.

O for a glance of heavenly day,
To take this stubborn heart away,
And thaw, with beams of love divine,
This heart, this frozen heart of mine.

The rocks can rend; the earth can quake;
The seas can roar; the mountains shake:
Of feeling, all things show some sign,
But this unfeeling heart of mine.

To hear the sorrows Thou hast felt,
O Lord, an adamant would melt:
But I can read each moving line,
And nothing moves this heart of mine.

Thy judgments, too, which devils fear—
Amazing thought! unmoved I hear;
Goodness and wrath in vain combine
To stir this stupid heart of mine.

But something yet can do the deed;
And that dear something much I need:
Thy Spirit can from dross refine,
And move and melt this heart of mine

Great find! I've often thought about this: How is it that devils tremble at the Word of God, but my heart can yet remain still and unaffected? It's an amazing thought! One can argue that it is because devils are spirits and men are not, but I say we are also composed of spirit - a quickened spirit! This spirit never trembled at the thought of God while he was dead in trespasses (which devils are also, I assume), and now even though he is quickened, he often slumbers still even at the name of Jesus. What a deplorable state we are in! Ah, but is there a remedy to be found in this sad, cold state?

But something yet can do the deed;

Yes! O Holy Spirit, come! Our hearts inspire..
