These venomous creatures! -watson

These venomous creatures!

(Thomas Watson, "The Christian's Charter")

Sin is a leprous spot. It makes everything we touch
unclean. Thus in every man naturally, there is a
fretting leprosy of sin, pride, unbelief, lust, etc.
These are leprous spots.

Sin is a defiling thing, it makes us red with guilt—and
black with filth! Sin is compared to a menstrual cloth.
Sin draws the Devil's picture in a man:
malice is the Devil's eye;
oppression is his hand;
hypocrisy is his cloven foot!

At last death comes—and the saint is freed from the leprosy!
Death is the last and best physician, which cures all diseases
and sins—the aching head and the unbelieving heart. Sin was
the midwife which brought death into the world; and death
shall be the grave to bury sin! O the privilege of a believer!

The Persians had a certain day in the year, wherein they
used to kill all serpents and venomous creatures. Such a
day as that, will the day of death be to the true Christian.
This day the old serpent dies in a believer, which has so
often stung him with temptations! This day the sins of the
godly—these venomous creatures—shall all be destroyed!

Isn't it a wonderful thing that in this life, I can learn how to die to self now, how to live so much in Christ that I will allow HIS power to stomp the venemous serpent's head within my own heart! How awesome that I can die daily! What a gift that He who is in me is greater than he who is in the world.

What a thought that I, a leper, full of sores and missing limbs, unable to cure myself, unable to find any solace, unable to be anything but a leper bound for sorrow and death; had the Master come into MY life and say to ME "Wilt thou be made whole?" My cry in response: "Lord, if you will. I am horrid and ugly and have no hope, how can You want to touch me?" His only response was to touch me, to heal my heart to bring me to a place to be made clean!!!!!

Yes, many times the leperosy of my flesh may seek to rear its ugly head; but GOD who is rich in mercy and is the Great Physician will heal me everytime I come to Him.

Yes, I agree! When one realizes that the frame called HIS temple...and that ownership of such remains with HIM, then praise GOD that HE chooses not to offcast our leperous state and rather says, "This one is mine...and always shall be!" Amen and amen!
