Ed Pugh says:
Great, God is good.
Greg Gordon says:
There was abit of confusion with me and the speaker I hope he makes it
Jimmy Humphrey says:

Greg Gordon says:

¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Greg Gordon says:

Jimmy Humphrey says:

Ed Pugh says:
Welcome Kire
Jimmy Humphrey says:
which means i know squat :)
Greg Gordon says:
lol
Kire(Tears_of_joy) says:
hi to all
matt grace says:
hey
Greg Gordon says:
does anyone know the speaker: Erlo Stegen
Ed Pugh says:
Is he with TSC?
Greg Gordon says:
no but brother wilkerson just had a crusade at his church in south africa
Greg Gordon says:
he is having revival its pretty awesome amongst the zulu people.
Greg Gordon says:
I have one of his messages from the conference featured on the site.
matt grace says:
thats awesome
Ed Pugh says:
I saw that message but haven't listened to it yet. Great.
Jimmy Humphrey says:
Last message received: 8:00:15 PM6/1/2004
Greg Gordon says:
whats that.
Greg Gordon says:
ohh ic :P
Jimmy Humphrey says:
greg is quick :)
Greg Gordon says:
grace period .
Jimmy Humphrey says:
let's see if i recall this right
Jimmy Humphrey says:
10 minutes if the teacher just has a masters, 15 if they have a doctorate
Greg Gordon says:
hehe
Jimmy Humphrey says:
does this guy have either?
Greg Gordon says:
nope
Greg Gordon says:
actually im not sure I am guessing no
matt grace says:
can i share some good news with yall?
Ed Pugh says:
sure
Greg Gordon says:
sure brother
matt grace says:
i really need to tell someone havent had a chagce yet
matt grace says:
one of my very good friends, a girl, well 19yrs old, just came ot christ yesterday
Jimmy Humphrey says:
wonderful
Ed Pugh says:
Praise God.
matt grace says:
shes been struggling with it for the last2 semesters
Greg Gordon says:
:) praise God
matt grace says:
im just overoyed
matt grace says:
joyed
matt grace says:
so much so that i cnat type apparently
Greg Gordon says:
hhehe
Jimmy Humphrey says:
somebody i know that hasn't been a christian but a year, and backslid about 6 months ago, has agreed to come back to church this sunday
Ed Pugh says:
The greatest miracle of all is when one comes to Christ.
matt grace says:
praise god
Greg Gordon says:
wow. good now God can deal with him
Greg Gordon says:
very true ed
Jimmy Humphrey says:
i just remembered though that i'm going out of town this weekend and won't be there to see them :(
Greg Gordon says:
yikes
Jimmy Humphrey says:
God made their life pretty rough pretty quick for them backsliding. when they got saved so many crooked things got straight... now some of those straight things got crooked. I've seen God discipline them for quite a while, taking many things away from them as they attempted to do something on their own
matt grace says:
have you guys read wild at heart
Greg Gordon says:
hmm wheres my puke icon when I need it..
Greg Gordon says:
:P
Jimmy Humphrey says:
yeah, i did a while ago
Greg Gordon says:
sorry
Greg Gordon says:
I say it how it is. :P
matt grace says:
just got done iwth it, i love it
Ed Pugh says:
For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, And scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
Jimmy Humphrey says:
i liked it quite a bit at first, but i cannot say my judgment was quite clear as I was kinda crushing on the girl that had me read it
matt grace says:
yes sir
matt grace says:
haha
Greg Gordon says:
lol
matt grace says:
i know that feeling
Greg Gordon says:
my point rests
Ed Pugh says:
I have Wild at Heart but haven't read it yet.
Jimmy Humphrey says:
Further reflection though caused me to not like it as much. It has some wonderful points, but I think Eldridge tends to turn into psycho-babel too often
matt grace says:
its a great book, opened my eyes to some things
Greg Gordon says:
I dont like much of the books that are mainstream..
Ed Pugh says:
It's at the bottom of the que.
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
++Mike Balog has entered the meeting.
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
matt grace says:
ah
Ed Pugh says:
Hey Mike!
Greg Gordon says:
hey brother mike!
Jimmy Humphrey says:
I tend to stay away from popular christian books these days
Mike Balog says:
finally!
Greg Gordon says:
Mikes going to preach to us tonight about whitfield right?
matt grace says:
ahh
Ed Pugh says:
Amen, let him roll.
Mike Balog says:
Yeah, well not quite ready for you guys yet...
Jimmy Humphrey says:
point in case: purpose driven life is considered deep theology and ground breaking stuff by many :)
Greg Gordon says:
yea
Greg Gordon says:
yes
matt grace says:
true
Mike Balog says:
lost to cyberspace
Ed Pugh says:
Yeah, Purpose Driven Life is going to gather some dust as well.
Mike Balog says:
never mind
Greg Gordon says:
why doesnt every church read "Why Revival Tarries"
Greg Gordon says:
hehe
Jimmy Humphrey says:
open air preachers tend to have strong voices. and it's not as hard to be heard at great distances as you might suppose should you just find a good location that picks up your voice
matt grace says:
i think of that one more as a beginners guide
Mike Balog says:
whoah to fast too fast...
Greg Gordon says:
that would be neat movement
Jimmy Humphrey says:
when i've preached at UNCC, my voice can be heard all over campus because of the way the buildings are positioned
Ed Pugh says:
I gave Why Revival Tarries to my pastor.
Mike Balog says:
just backtracked to this "point in case: purpose driven life is considered deep theology and ground breaking stuff by many :" Yikes!
Greg Gordon says:
lol
Jimmy Humphrey says:
it might be good for new converts... but i'm a bit suspect of a book that used the message as it's primary text
Ed Pugh says:
Yeah, that's pretty scary.
Mike Balog says:
agree
Ed Pugh says:
Are there any contemporary writers you all like?
Jimmy Humphrey says:
I've enjoyed Jim Cymbala's "Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire"
Kire(Tears_of_joy) says:
here is 3:12 AM :( do we waiting for something or to jump in bed:)
Jimmy Humphrey says:
and stuff by Os Guinness and Philip Kenneson
Greg Gordon says:
yea im not sure if jesse is going to make it brother kire
Greg Gordon says:
you better retire for the night
Mike Balog says:
Yes to those! Os Guinness, Cymbala...thoughts on Yancey?
Greg Gordon says:
does anyone have a microphone?
Greg Gordon says:
:P
Jimmy Humphrey says:
I've never read Yancey. The few pages I picked up to read casually in a bookstore seemed a bit fluffy to me
Mike Balog says:
Yeah, do you want my "Goloum" voice?
Ed Pugh says:
Yes, I have some Cymbala books. How about John Piper? I have a mic not sure if it works :(
Greg Gordon says:
I have read books and books by yancey in my early christian life
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
++Jesse Morrell has entered the meeting.
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Greg Gordon says:
they took me inches in my walk with God
Greg Gordon says:

Mike Balog says:

¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
++James Dziya has entered the meeting.
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

James Dziya says:

Greg Gordon says:

James Dziya says:

James Dziya says:
lol
Mike Balog says:
and there is a trail of dust back here..cough,cough...
Jesse Morrell says:
well, if you give me another day I could be more prepared. I feel bad. I have been soo busy lately it is unbeleivable
Jesse Morrell says:
I wasn't able to prepared as much as I would have liked
Mike Balog says:
Hey, no problem brother!
Jesse Morrell says:
it's so unprofessional of me
Greg Gordon says:
nah just wing it..
Greg Gordon says:
thats the way of the kingdom
Mike Balog says:
good hing we aren't a bunch of pro's
Greg Gordon says:
professionality is :P
Jesse Morrell says:

Mike Balog says:

Greg Gordon says:
God uses the lowly and the unprepared
James Dziya says:
I too have been real busy, i have just woken up and I almost missed the meeting
Ed Pugh says:
That's what happened with "Ten Shekels and a Shirt." Winging it with the power of the Holy Ghost.
Jesse Morrell says:
well, whitefield himself knew nothing of preparing
Greg Gordon says:

Mike Balog says:

Jesse Morrell says:

Mike Balog says:

Ed Pugh says:

Jesse Morrell says:
haha
Greg Gordon says:
you should be good to go brother jesse
Mike Balog says:
Oh, you gotta love it!
Greg Gordon says:

Greg Gordon says:

Ed Pugh says:

Mike Balog says:

James Dziya says:

Ed Pugh says:

Mike Balog says:

Jesse Morrell says:

Jimmy Humphrey says:
Question, did Whitefield just start preaching in the streerts? Or did he do a sort of Billy Graham crusade, and announce his meetings far ahead of time?
Greg Gordon says:
cause he got kicked out of the churches :P
Greg Gordon says:
hehe
Ed Pugh says:
Acts 5:41 They therefore departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for the Name.
Jimmy Humphrey says:
But did he announce "I will be preaching at x location at x time" and put posters throughout town?
James Dziya says:
That's a good one Ed
Greg Gordon says:
jesse: (do you want use to keep questions to the end or is this ok to ask on the way).

Greg Gordon says:

Jimmy Humphrey says:
So, did Whitefield ever preach in Taverns during business hours?
Jesse Morrell says:
not to my knowledge but I wouldn't put it past him
Jesse Morrell says:
he preached in the fields, the market places, and the streets

Yes
dabuane@wiktel.com (dabuane@wiktel.com) says:
But not JUST there.
Ed Pugh says:
Amen! Everywhere...
James Dziya says:
Yes]
Jimmy Humphrey says:
Did he always preach to large crowds, or did much of the time he spent preaching on the streets that he just appeared to be the local town nut?
Mike Balog says:
odd, the one's that need to be thrown out, now get welcomed
Greg Gordon says:
wow mike
dabuane@wiktel.com (dabuane@wiktel.com) says:
Brother Jesse, what's the bottom line? "What shall WE do?"
Greg Gordon says:
thats a REALLY intersting point
Ed Pugh says:
Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest indeed is plenteous, but the laborers are few.
Jesse Morrell says:
as far as I know he always had a crowd
Jesse Morrell says:
people couldn't but stop and listen and watch
Jesse Morrell says:
what shall we do?
matt grace says:
thanks for hte awesome mesage, ive gott to go school to study for
Greg Gordon says:

Mike Balog says:
sweet dreams :)
Ed Pugh says:
Wow, praise God, Kire.
James Dziya says:
Okay Kire take care man
Jimmy Humphrey says:
did Whitefield have a time at the start of his ministry where he was unable to draw crowds?
Jimmy Humphrey says:
you mentioned a time about "breaking through"
Jimmy Humphrey says:
implying a time where he did not
dabuane@wiktel.com (dabuane@wiktel.com) says:
Maybe that's where we'd learn much. Breaking those awe-full barriers.
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
+++Kire(Tears_of_joy) has left the meeting.
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Mike Balog says:
!!!!
Jesse Morrell says:
which puts me to shame because after two years I still don't always get a crowd
Jesse Morrell says:
not always
James Dziya says:
But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ Eph 4:7
Mike Balog says:
Well...God will take car of the people brother
Mike Balog says:
care
Mike Balog says:
thats 'prosperity' teaching :)
Jimmy Humphrey says:
i've preached open air about 5 or 6 times, and only once did I draw a crowd. some would watch from afar the other times, but most often than not, folks just walked by
Ed Pugh says:
I wouldn't measure myself by the number of people. Measure yourself by how much you are yielded to Christ. That is the important thing.
Greg Gordon says:
Hmm Jesse? where there intercessors with whitfield?
Jimmy Humphrey says:
indeed. the number is not important
Jesse Morrell says:
there were not a group of intercessors that I know of
Mike Balog says:
plant, seed, water
Jesse Morrell says:
unlike Finney, I believe, who always had praying men
Jimmy Humphrey says:
did he just go from town to town as the holy spirit moved him, or was he invited by others to come to various cities and preach open air?
Mike Balog says:
what about the Holy Club?
James Dziya says:
Well everyone, the discussion has been great, I need to go to work for now. I see you later
Jesse Morrell says:
He had God in a way that I have yet to see in our own time
Mike Balog says:
In that regard, intercession?
Greg Gordon says:
bye brother james
Ed Pugh says:
as did Evan Roberts. (intercessors)

He went as the Spirit lead him
Mike Balog says:
See Ya James
Jesse Morrell says:
he seemed to particularly enjoy the american colonies
Jimmy Humphrey says:
did he write any books?
dabuane@wiktel.com (dabuane@wiktel.com) says:
What era was this guy, then? 1600's, 1700's?
Jesse Morrell says:
he publiched best selling journals

1714-1770

Jimmy Humphrey says:
did people attempt to transcribe his sermons? or do we pretty much have little idea of the actual words he said in his sermons besides from bits and pieces mentioned here or there?
Mike Balog says:
to follow up on that, what did you draw from, Jesse
Jesse Morrell says:
a book on fasting? the bible
Ed Pugh says:
I found a couple of couple of books, although I'm unfamiliar with this website: http://www.alibris.com/search/search.cfm?S=R&wauth=george+whitefield&siteID=LZnHz3LsyUA-Lo3dWFS8tC7yFSp9O16_aw.
Jesse Morrell says:
actually Brother Greg and I talked about having some of his sermons read for the site
Mike Balog says:
YES!!!!!!
dabuane@wiktel.com (dabuane@wiktel.com) says:
GR8 idea!
dabuane@wiktel.com (dabuane@wiktel.com) says:
Thanks Ed.
Ed Pugh says:
yw. That's the way it's supposed to be.
Jimmy Humphrey says:
so people did transcribe them?
Greg Gordon says:
yes there are 100 of them
Greg Gordon says:
https://www.sermonindex.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=1746&forum=34#11067
Greg Gordon says:
thats a good sermon :)
Jesse Morrell says:
i'm sure that he also wrote sermons for newspapers among other things
Jesse Morrell says:
that was common in his day
Mike Balog says:
who's that Greg?
Greg Gordon says:
whitfield 'true marks of conversion'
Mike Balog says:
by?
Greg Gordon says:
whitfield
Greg Gordon says:
lol
Greg Gordon says:
its textual
Mike Balog says:
Boy his voice was LOUD!
Ed Pugh says:
lol, I'm getting confused. Not a difficult problem.
Mike Balog says:
How is the reading of it?
Greg Gordon says:
there is none
Greg Gordon says:
its just text
Jimmy Humphrey says:
what was it mostly that the church opposed about whitefield that they would not invite him to preach in the church?
Mike Balog says:
I listened to "Sinners in the Hands..." and the guy reading it.....
Mike Balog says:
Hello!!!
Jesse Morrell says:
it was his dramatic form of preaching
Mike Balog says:
Text
Jesse Morrell says:
he started what we call body language preaching
Jesse Morrell says:
using his hands etc
Greg Gordon says:
yes
Jesse Morrell says:
as well as his "hell fire" preaching
Mike Balog says:
Whitefield?
Greg Gordon says:
they said he hypnotized people
Greg Gordon says:
yes whitfiled
Jesse Morrell says:
exactly
Jimmy Humphrey says:
so, it was not so much that he was doctrinally wrong in their eyes as he was simply too informal?
dabuane@wiktel.com (dabuane@wiktel.com) says:
In a Godly sense, of course. Sounds like good material.
+Jim and Christine+ (thefamily_center@msn.com) says:
My husband says they wanted well-thought out theological arguments.
Jesse Morrell says:
he completely broke out of the mold that was made for him
Greg Gordon says:
ahh good point christine
Jesse Morrell says:
even the crowds didn't always like him
Jimmy Humphrey says:
lol. sounds almost goofy. "i'm sorry brother you can't preach here, you are simply too dynamic of a preacher for us"
Mike Balog says:
conviction...?
dabuane@wiktel.com (dabuane@wiktel.com) says:
We have a promise, don't we? "He who lives godly in Christ Jesus WILL suffer persecution." Just not being invited to church is probably tame to some ...
Mike Balog says:
Jimmy, !!!!!!
Jimmy Humphrey says:
Mike?
Ed Pugh says:
lol
Jesse Morrell says:
brutal mobs sometimes attached him and his followers, maiming people and stripping women naked. Whitefield recieved three letters with death threats, and once he was stoned until nearly dead
+Jim and Christine+ (thefamily_center@msn.com) says:
He says the other point was that when he preached there would be spontaneous outbursts from the congregation & they thought that was a major "no-no" plus he preached outdoors which was another "no-no."
Greg Gordon says:
hehe mike was saying your on point!
Greg Gordon says:
like good one
Mike Balog says:
Responding to your comment brother ! (Jimmy)
Jesse Morrell says:
upper class was not very fond of him because he told them they were just as sinful as the lower class
dabuane@wiktel.com (dabuane@wiktel.com) says:
WOW!
Jimmy Humphrey says:
oh :)
Greg Gordon says:
:P
Mike Balog says:
I'll let Greg speak for me...I am too long winded!
Ed Pugh says:
Sounds like today a bit wouldn't you say..
Jimmy Humphrey says:
white collar crimes before God are just as much sin as lower class blue collar folk
dabuane@wiktel.com (dabuane@wiktel.com) says:
So true.
Mike Balog says:
Amen to that
dabuane@wiktel.com (dabuane@wiktel.com) says:
Seems as though that "Gethsemane Prayer" style would be the one to give us the "guts to go" on missions like this. God, we need YOU!
Jesse Morrell says:
although he was not all hated, he had a great deal of followers
+Jim and Christine+ (thefamily_center@msn.com) says:
Yes but the white collar people don't all know it yet
Jimmy Humphrey says:
embezzling from the petty cash is just as bad as ripping off a jacket from a retail sales floor
Ed Pugh says:
True, sin is sin is sin...
dabuane@wiktel.com (dabuane@wiktel.com) says:
Seems that when God calls us to "stand up and be counted," it identifies us with the right side visibly. Good thing!
Mike Balog says:
no difference
Jesse Morrell says:
all sin his HUGE in Gods eyes because it is all rebellion against His rule
Mike Balog says:
Amen
Ed Pugh says:
Amen Brother Jesse!
Jesse Morrell says:
the punishment for all rebellion is the same
Jimmy Humphrey says:
the white collar has it worse becuase his pride causes him to think lightly of his sin
dabuane@wiktel.com (dabuane@wiktel.com) says:
Bro. Jesse, is a book your source of material? Have you been studying his life quite some time?
Mike Balog says:
good point Jimmy
Jesse Morrell says:
i got my material from CHristian History "George Whitefield"
Jesse Morrell says:
although I do own a book on his life, i have yet to read it
Jesse Morrell says:
Christian History is a magazine
Ed Pugh says:
Do you have a book with his sermons?
dabuane@wiktel.com (dabuane@wiktel.com) says:
Would be interesting to know how some of his descendants have fared due to His influence. That's one of God's awesome blessings.
+Jim and Christine+ (thefamily_center@msn.com) says:
It seems the whilte collar's "success" makes him immune to seeing his mortality, etc.,
Jesse Morrell says:
i am no expert on whitefield
Mike Balog says:
Excellent mag, by the way
Jesse Morrell says:
I have a book that has his sermons but not only his sermons
Jimmy Humphrey says:
lol jesse. no wonder greg was asking me to teach on it :)
Greg Gordon says:
yes Jesse is a fast learner
dabuane@wiktel.com (dabuane@wiktel.com) says:
I certainly do appreciate your presentation.
Greg Gordon says:
yes it was awesome for the amount of time you put into it
Mike Balog says:
CCEL...hmmm might have to check there
Jimmy Humphrey says:
you seemed to know a bit about it
Jesse Morrell says:
how many of you knew alot about whitefield before?
Jimmy Humphrey says:
could've fooled me
+Jim and Christine+ (thefamily_center@msn.com) says:
The blessing of the righteous goes down a thousand generations
Greg Gordon says:
hehe
Ed Pugh says:
I heard his name but frankly didn't know much about him.
Greg Gordon says:
the Holy spirit makes up for our weakness
Jimmy Humphrey says:
i only know a little from my Christian History 2 class
dabuane@wiktel.com (dabuane@wiktel.com) says:
Yes, thank God for THAT promise, Christine!
Jimmy Humphrey says:
that, and little comments folks like Ravenhill and Reidhead, etc have made
+Jim and Christine+ (thefamily_center@msn.com) says:
Sometimes I think we think of the curses side of that too much. It seems the sins are visited several generations but I never noticed the longevity of the blessings side till recently
Mike Balog says:
bit's and pieces, but this will just drive me to absorb more...and then hope it leaks back out again
Jesse Morrell says:
i own a book by arnold a dallimore called George Whitefield- God's anointed servant in the great revival of the eighteenth century
Jesse Morrell says:
brb
Ed Pugh says:
Brother Jesse, thanks so much. Jim and Christine Ravenhill mentions this in a book "America Is too Young to Die." He shows what happened to J. Edwards descendants and someone else who was not a Christian.
Greg Gordon says:
I have to say I was tremoundsly blessed by jesse brothers and sisters.
dabuane@wiktel.com (dabuane@wiktel.com) says:
Wasn't that a J.Edwards descendant who was adopted outside the family?
Jimmy Humphrey says:
indeed, twas good
Ed Pugh says:
Amen.
Mike Balog says:
I'll second that
dabuane@wiktel.com (dabuane@wiktel.com) says:
Indeed! Praise God. So inspirational!
Jesse Morrell says:
back
Greg Gordon says:
ok lets pull out the offering plates now.
Greg Gordon says:
:P
Greg Gordon says:
jks
Jimmy Humphrey says:
lol, you are already robbing me greg :)
Greg Gordon says:
hehe
Mike Balog says:
"to give to the other churches"?
dabuane@wiktel.com (dabuane@wiktel.com) says:
jks? Now I feel like a newbie!
Mike Balog says:
not alone there
Mike Balog says:
just kidding? something
Mike Balog says:
just kant say?
Jesse Morrell says:
i was really convicted that i almost didn't do this meeting
dabuane@wiktel.com (dabuane@wiktel.com) says:
How so?
Ed Pugh says:
Well brothers and sisters I've got to roll. Thanks so much Brother Jesse. Thanks for the fellowship. May the fire of the Holy Ghost ignite in you.
Jesse Morrell says:
well i almost didn't do it because i have been traveling and am absolutely exhausted plus i didn't get to prepare like i wanted to
dabuane@wiktel.com (dabuane@wiktel.com) says:
God bless, Ed!
Jesse Morrell says:
but hwo can God sustain me if I don't try?
Mike Balog says:
And you to brother Ed!
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
+++Ed Pugh has left the meeting.
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Jimmy Humphrey says:
so jesse, how often have you done open air, and how has the lord blessed your labors?
Jesse Morrell says:
i go out usually atleast once a week but usually more
Greg Gordon says:
www.newenglandoutreach.com - BOOKMARK IT!
Greg Gordon says:
its jesse's ministry site
Greg Gordon says:
:)
Jesse Morrell says:
i have seen drug dealers brought to tears and repentance and I have seen business men mock and threaten
dabuane@wiktel.com (dabuane@wiktel.com) says:
True, Jesse. I know I have often been walking on "God's thin air only" many times while doing Wednesday meetings when deacons/elders wouldn't do the service. I was challenging them. I'm a no-title Christian.
Jimmy Humphrey says:
where do you usually go?
Mike Balog says:
cool, thanks Greg!
dabuane@wiktel.com (dabuane@wiktel.com) says:
Thanks Greg!
Jesse Morrell says:
if you go to: http://www.fireonthealtar.com/open/
Jesse Morrell says:
you could read some testimonies of my preaching
Greg Gordon says:
nice.
Jesse Morrell says:
as well as articals and poetry i have writeen
Mike Balog says:
and Lazurus :)
Greg Gordon says:
yea you got to get access back to the site brother
Greg Gordon says:
hmmm
Mike Balog says:
???
Jesse Morrell says:
i go and preach at parks, greens, outside clubs and bars, bus stops
Jesse Morrell says:
etc
Jimmy Humphrey says:
i myself am a bit interested in open-air stuff. i've recently felt called to do it myself (well, felt called to do it for a while, but finally only obeyed the Lord in it recently)
Jimmy Humphrey says:
so i am always fascinated when i learn of others that do it :)
Jesse Morrell says:
i started by standing up on a bench at a bus stop to address the crowd that is waiting there
dabuane@wiktel.com (dabuane@wiktel.com) says:
Brother Jesse, what type of "ministry team" do you have with you?
Jesse Morrell says:
often I go out alone which is dangerouswhen i go to the downtown city areas around midnight
Jimmy Humphrey says:
the time i drew a crowd was the first time i went out, and a cop got on my case
Jesse Morrell says:
but for a year I had a steady team of preachers that came every saturday
dabuane@wiktel.com (dabuane@wiktel.com) says:
Sounds like at least the goldness of God.
Jimmy Humphrey says:
wonderful
Jesse Morrell says:
yes the cops have really been busting down on it, i was arrested recently
dabuane@wiktel.com (dabuane@wiktel.com) says:
Boldness of God.
Jimmy Humphrey says:
does your church support you much in it?
Jesse Morrell says:
i have some cops encourage me, others threaten me
Jesse Morrell says:
yes very much
Jesse Morrell says:
in two weeks they are letting me do a two day seminar on outreach
Mike Balog says:
wow, where are you, location wise again?
Jesse Morrell says:
and i just finished an 8 week class
Jesse Morrell says:
connecticut
Mike Balog says:
wow..
Jesse Morrell says:
i'm a new englander
Mike Balog says:
excellent!
Jesse Morrell says:
although there are some in my church who oppose it
Mike Balog says:
some history!
Jimmy Humphrey says:
what church do you go to?
Jesse Morrell says:
Christ Community Church, non denomination
Jesse Morrell says:
al
Jesse Morrell says:
where are you guys from?
+Jim and Christine+ (thefamily_center@msn.com) says:
We pastored a church by that name in Shreveport, LA. What part of CT?
Mike Balog says:
California
dabuane@wiktel.com (dabuane@wiktel.com) says:
When I moved here to Minnesota from Seattle, was surprised there are nondenominational up in Northwestern Minnesota. Full gospel style? Mine is FCA
Jimmy Humphrey says:
some folks at my church have mixed feelings about it (the few that know about it, i don't go around broadcasting it at church)
Greg Gordon says:

Jimmy Humphrey says:
Charlotte, North Carolina here
Jesse Morrell says:

Jesse Morrell says:

Mike Balog says:

Ed Pugh says:
Being reading "The Normal Christian Life" wow what a book
Greg Gordon says:
whats pretty amazing is the price of this software just increased x4
Greg Gordon says:
but I have it secured for 1 year at the low price praise god
Ed Pugh says:
Great, God is good.
Greg Gordon says:
There was abit of confusion with me and the speaker I hope he makes it
Jimmy Humphrey says:
for your sake we hope he does 2
Ed Pugh says:
lol
Greg Gordon says:
hehe well jimmy is our backup
matt grace says:
haha
Greg Gordon says:
hes a whitfield scholar?
Greg Gordon says:
right brother jimmy
Jimmy Humphrey says:
I know some stuff about him, yes

Ed Pugh says:
Welcome Kire
Jimmy Humphrey says:
which means i know squat :)
Greg Gordon says:
lol
Kire(Tears_of_joy) says:
hi to all
matt grace says:
hey
Greg Gordon says:
does anyone know the speaker: Erlo Stegen
Ed Pugh says:
Is he with TSC?
Greg Gordon says:
no but brother wilkerson just had a crusade at his church in south africa
Greg Gordon says:
he is having revival its pretty awesome amongst the zulu people.
Greg Gordon says:
I have one of his messages from the conference featured on the site.
matt grace says:
thats awesome
Ed Pugh says:
I saw that message but haven't listened to it yet. Great.
Jimmy Humphrey says:
Last message received: 8:00:15 PM6/1/2004
Greg Gordon says:
whats that.
Greg Gordon says:
ohh ic :P
Jimmy Humphrey says:
greg is quick :)
Greg Gordon says:
grace period .
Jimmy Humphrey says:
let's see if i recall this right
Jimmy Humphrey says:
10 minutes if the teacher just has a masters, 15 if they have a doctorate
Greg Gordon says:
hehe
Jimmy Humphrey says:
does this guy have either?
Greg Gordon says:
nope
Jimmy Humphrey says:
hmm... :)
Greg Gordon says:
actually im not sure I am guessing no
matt grace says:
can i share some good news with yall?
Ed Pugh says:
sure
Greg Gordon says:
sure brother
matt grace says:
i really need to tell someone havent had a chagce yet
matt grace says:
one of my very good friends, a girl, well 19yrs old, just came ot christ yesterday
Jimmy Humphrey says:
wonderful
Ed Pugh says:
Praise God.
matt grace says:
shes been struggling with it for the last2 semesters
Greg Gordon says:
:) praise God
matt grace says:
im just overoyed
matt grace says:
joyed
matt grace says:
so much so that i cnat type apparently
Greg Gordon says:
hhehe
Jimmy Humphrey says:
somebody i know that hasn't been a christian but a year, and backslid about 6 months ago, has agreed to come back to church this sunday
Ed Pugh says:
The greatest miracle of all is when one comes to Christ.
matt grace says:
praise god
Greg Gordon says:
wow. good now God can deal with him
Greg Gordon says:
very true ed
Jimmy Humphrey says:
i just remembered though that i'm going out of town this weekend and won't be there to see them :(
Greg Gordon says:
yikes
Jimmy Humphrey says:
God made their life pretty rough pretty quick for them backsliding. when they got saved so many crooked things got straight... now some of those straight things got crooked. I've seen God discipline them for quite a while, taking many things away from them as they attempted to do something on their own
matt grace says:
have you guys read wild at heart
Greg Gordon says:
hmm wheres my puke icon when I need it..
Greg Gordon says:
:P
Jimmy Humphrey says:
yeah, i did a while ago
Greg Gordon says:
sorry
Greg Gordon says:
I say it how it is. :P
matt grace says:
just got done iwth it, i love it
Jimmy Humphrey says:
i liked it quite a bit at first, but i cannot say my judgment was quite clear as I was kinda crushing on the girl that had me read it
matt grace says:
yes sir
matt grace says:
haha
Greg Gordon says:
lol
matt grace says:
i know that feeling
Greg Gordon says:
my point rests
Ed Pugh says:
I have Wild at Heart but haven't read it yet.
Jimmy Humphrey says:
Further reflection though caused me to not like it as much. It has some wonderful points, but I think Eldridge tends to turn into psycho-babel too often
matt grace says:
its a great book, opened my eyes to some things
Greg Gordon says:
I dont like much of the books that are mainstream..
Ed Pugh says:
It's at the bottom of the que.
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
++Mike Balog has entered the meeting.
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
matt grace says:
ah
Ed Pugh says:
Hey Mike!
Greg Gordon says:
hey brother mike!
Jimmy Humphrey says:
I tend to stay away from popular christian books these days
Mike Balog says:
finally!
Greg Gordon says:
Mikes going to preach to us tonight about whitfield right?
matt grace says:
ahh
Ed Pugh says:
Amen, let him roll.
Mike Balog says:
Yeah, well not quite ready for you guys yet...
Jimmy Humphrey says:
point in case: purpose driven life is considered deep theology and ground breaking stuff by many :)
Greg Gordon says:
yea
Ed Pugh says:
I heard Whitefield didn't need a microphone to preach and one could hear him up to a mile.
Greg Gordon says:
yes
matt grace says:
true
Mike Balog says:
lost to cyberspace
Ed Pugh says:
Yeah, Purpose Driven Life is going to gather some dust as well.
Mike Balog says:
never mind
Greg Gordon says:
why doesnt every church read "Why Revival Tarries"
Greg Gordon says:
hehe
Jimmy Humphrey says:
open air preachers tend to have strong voices. and it's not as hard to be heard at great distances as you might suppose should you just find a good location that picks up your voice
matt grace says:
i think of that one more as a beginners guide
Mike Balog says:
whoah to fast too fast...
Greg Gordon says:
that would be neat movement
Jimmy Humphrey says:
when i've preached at UNCC, my voice can be heard all over campus because of the way the buildings are positioned
Ed Pugh says:
I gave Why Revival Tarries to my pastor.
Mike Balog says:
just backtracked to this "point in case: purpose driven life is considered deep theology and ground breaking stuff by many :" Yikes!
Greg Gordon says:
lol
Jimmy Humphrey says:
it might be good for new converts... but i'm a bit suspect of a book that used the message as it's primary text
Ed Pugh says:
Yeah, that's pretty scary.
Mike Balog says:
agree
Ed Pugh says:
Are there any contemporary writers you all like?
Jimmy Humphrey says:
I've enjoyed Jim Cymbala's "Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire"
Kire(Tears_of_joy) says:
here is 3:12 AM :( do we waiting for something or to jump in bed:)
Jimmy Humphrey says:
and stuff by Os Guinness and Philip Kenneson
Greg Gordon says:
yea im not sure if jesse is going to make it brother kire

Mike Balog says:
Yes to those! Os Guinness, Cymbala...thoughts on Yancey?
Greg Gordon says:
does anyone have a microphone?
Greg Gordon says:
:P
Jimmy Humphrey says:
I've never read Yancey. The few pages I picked up to read casually in a bookstore seemed a bit fluffy to me
Ed Pugh says:
Yes, I have some Cymbala books. How about John Piper? I have a mic not sure if it works :(
Greg Gordon says:
I have read books and books by yancey in my early christian life

Greg Gordon says:
cause he got kicked out of the churches :P
Greg Gordon says:
hehe
Ed Pugh says:
Acts 5:41 They therefore departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for the Name.
Jimmy Humphrey says:
But did he announce "I will be preaching at x location at x time" and put posters throughout town?

wow mike

Jimmy Humphrey says:
did Whitefield have a time at the start of his ministry where he was unable to draw crowds?
Jimmy Humphrey says:
you mentioned a time about "breaking through"
Jimmy Humphrey says:
implying a time where he did not
dabuane@wiktel.com (dabuane@wiktel.com) says:

Mike Balog says:
!!!!
Jesse Morrell says:
which puts me to shame because after two years I still don't always get a crowd
Jesse Morrell says:
not always
James Dziya says:
But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ Eph 4:7
Mike Balog says:
Well...God will take car of the people brother
Mike Balog says:
care
Mike Balog says:
thats 'prosperity' teaching :)
Jimmy Humphrey says:
i've preached open air about 5 or 6 times, and only once did I draw a crowd. some would watch from afar the other times, but most often than not, folks just walked by
Ed Pugh says:
I wouldn't measure myself by the number of people. Measure yourself by how much you are yielded to Christ. That is the important thing.
Greg Gordon says:
Hmm Jesse? where there intercessors with whitfield?
Jimmy Humphrey says:
indeed. the number is not important
Jesse Morrell says:
there were not a group of intercessors that I know of
Mike Balog says:
plant, seed, water
Jesse Morrell says:
unlike Finney, I believe, who always had praying men
Jimmy Humphrey says:
did he just go from town to town as the holy spirit moved him, or was he invited by others to come to various cities and preach open air?
Mike Balog says:
what about the Holy Club?
James Dziya says:
Well everyone, the discussion has been great, I need to go to work for now. I see you later
Jesse Morrell says:
He had God in a way that I have yet to see in our own time
Mike Balog says:
In that regard, intercession?

did people attempt to transcribe his sermons? or do we pretty much have little idea of the actual words he said in his sermons besides from bits and pieces mentioned here or there?
Mike Balog says:
to follow up on that, what did you draw from, Jesse
Jesse Morrell says:
a book on fasting? the bible
Ed Pugh says:
I found a couple of couple of books, although I'm unfamiliar with this website: http://www.alibris.com/search/search.cfm?S=R&wauth=george+whitefield&siteID=LZnHz3LsyUA-Lo3dWFS8tC7yFSp9O16_aw.

yw. That's the way it's supposed to be.

yes there are 100 of them

https://www.sermonindex.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=1746&forum=34#11067
Greg Gordon says:
thats a good sermon :)
Jesse Morrell says:
i'm sure that he also wrote sermons for newspapers among other things
Jesse Morrell says:
that was common in his day

who's that Greg?

whitfield 'true marks of conversion'
Mike Balog says:
by?

whitfield
Greg Gordon says:
lol
Greg Gordon says:
its textual
Mike Balog says:
Boy his voice was LOUD!
Ed Pugh says:
lol, I'm getting confused. Not a difficult problem.
Mike Balog says:
How is the reading of it?
Greg Gordon says:
there is none
Greg Gordon says:
its just text
Jimmy Humphrey says:
what was it mostly that the church opposed about whitefield that they would not invite him to preach in the church?
Mike Balog says:
I listened to "Sinners in the Hands..." and the guy reading it.....
Mike Balog says:
Hello!!!
Jesse Morrell says:
it was his dramatic form of preaching
Mike Balog says:
Text
Jesse Morrell says:
he started what we call body language preaching
Jesse Morrell says:
using his hands etc
Greg Gordon says:
yes
Jesse Morrell says:
as well as his "hell fire" preaching
Greg Gordon says:
they said he hypnotized people
Greg Gordon says:
yes whitfiled
Jesse Morrell says:
exactly
Jimmy Humphrey says:
so, it was not so much that he was doctrinally wrong in their eyes as he was simply too informal?
dabuane@wiktel.com (dabuane@wiktel.com) says:
In a Godly sense, of course. Sounds like good material.
+Jim and Christine+ (thefamily_center@msn.com) says:
My husband says they wanted well-thought out theological arguments.
Jesse Morrell says:
he completely broke out of the mold that was made for him
Greg Gordon says:
ahh good point christine
Jesse Morrell says:
even the crowds didn't always like him
Jimmy Humphrey says:
lol. sounds almost goofy. "i'm sorry brother you can't preach here, you are simply too dynamic of a preacher for us"
Mike Balog says:
conviction...?
dabuane@wiktel.com (dabuane@wiktel.com) says:
We have a promise, don't we? "He who lives godly in Christ Jesus WILL suffer persecution." Just not being invited to church is probably tame to some ...
Mike Balog says:
Jimmy, !!!!!!
Jimmy Humphrey says:
Mike?
Ed Pugh says:
lol
Jesse Morrell says:
brutal mobs sometimes attached him and his followers, maiming people and stripping women naked. Whitefield recieved three letters with death threats, and once he was stoned until nearly dead
+Jim and Christine+ (thefamily_center@msn.com) says:
He says the other point was that when he preached there would be spontaneous outbursts from the congregation & they thought that was a major "no-no" plus he preached outdoors which was another "no-no."
Greg Gordon says:
hehe mike was saying your on point!
Greg Gordon says:
like good one
Mike Balog says:
Responding to your comment brother ! (Jimmy)
Jesse Morrell says:
upper class was not very fond of him because he told them they were just as sinful as the lower class

WOW!

oh :)
Greg Gordon says:
:P
+Jim and Christine+ (thefamily_center@msn.com) says:
LOL - how true
Mike Balog says:
I'll let Greg speak for me...I am too long winded!

Sounds like today a bit wouldn't you say..
Jimmy Humphrey says:
white collar crimes before God are just as much sin as lower class blue collar folk
dabuane@wiktel.com (dabuane@wiktel.com) says:
So true.
Mike Balog says:
Amen to that
dabuane@wiktel.com (dabuane@wiktel.com) says:
Seems as though that "Gethsemane Prayer" style would be the one to give us the "guts to go" on missions like this. God, we need YOU!
Jesse Morrell says:
although he was not all hated, he had a great deal of followers
+Jim and Christine+ (thefamily_center@msn.com) says:
Yes but the white collar people don't all know it yet
Jimmy Humphrey says:
embezzling from the petty cash is just as bad as ripping off a jacket from a retail sales floor
Ed Pugh says:
True, sin is sin is sin...
dabuane@wiktel.com (dabuane@wiktel.com) says:
Seems that when God calls us to "stand up and be counted," it identifies us with the right side visibly. Good thing!
Mike Balog says:
no difference
Jesse Morrell says:
all sin his HUGE in Gods eyes because it is all rebellion against His rule
Mike Balog says:
Amen
Ed Pugh says:
Amen Brother Jesse!
Jesse Morrell says:
the punishment for all rebellion is the same

dabuane@wiktel.com (dabuane@wiktel.com) says:
Bro. Jesse, is a book your source of material? Have you been studying his life quite some time?
Mike Balog says:
good point Jimmy
Jesse Morrell says:
i got my material from CHristian History "George Whitefield"
Jesse Morrell says:
although I do own a book on his life, i have yet to read it
Jesse Morrell says:
Christian History is a magazine
Ed Pugh says:
Do you have a book with his sermons?
+Jim and Christine+ (thefamily_center@msn.com) says:

Jesse Morrell says:
brb
dabuane@wiktel.com (dabuane@wiktel.com) says:
That blessing/cursing stuff seems hidden from most, but what we 'seek' for, we 'find'.

Yes I fully concur that his passion and the way he presented himself in the online medium was very impressive. I am looking forward to having brother Jesse speak again on SermonIndex. If you decide to come to another of his online seminars be prepared to be challanged, convicted, and changed. He has a message for a sleepy lukewarm church that is not active in the business of the kingdom.
