 Re: what defines obedience?

Quote:
Can anyone encourage me about obedience to Jesus's words? ?

Okay, well it looks like I'm a little late on this one. It looks like you have quite a lot of encouragement here. And I will admit, just skimmed through all the posts. What I was looking for was to see if anyone else posted the verse that came to my mind when I read that you needed some encouragement about being obedient. I didn't see it. So very simply:

"... don't get discouraged and give up, for we will reap a harvest of blessing at the appropriate time" (Galatians 6:9).

In context it's:

"Don't be misled. Remember that you can't ignore God and get away with it. You will reap what you sow! Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful desires will harvest the consequences of decay and death. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit. So don't get tired of doing what is good..." (Galatians 6:7-9)

 Re:

This verse should encourage any Christian to obey the words of Jesus.

1 Peter 1:22a - Since you have in obedience to the truth purified your souls..

The KJV reads it as "through the spirit you have obeyed."

God bless,

Mike

 Re:

thanks for the Scripture reminders.

I've been listening to bible on tape, Isaiah, Jeremiah, some of the other OT prophets, and that also encourages me. The Lord tells us of the future, and to wait on Him, and to continue to look to Him, that's what He wants. I've been really encouraged by all these Scriptures. I've also gotten a little bit of fruitful harvest from some family and friends, a nonChristian old childhood friend is getting open about the things of God, even after I laid out the complete Gospel for her, including punishment for sins is hell. She isn't converted, but that's God's work, not mine. I am thankful God is using her openness to encourage me, and He is using my teenage sister too. Some others I have shared the Gospel with are not as well-recieved.

Thank you, Lord, for using me and giving me life. Thank you for this community of saints, it's a blessing.

(Rookie, you quoted me as I was quoting Philogos, I'm still learning how to use all the functions, and was ignorant of how to quote someone properly)

 Re: God's Blessings

Isn't it cool how God encourages and blesses us?! That's cool to hear, that you have people to lift you up, and that you get this neat opportunity to witness to your friend. And you're right, it is up to God to work in her heart. That's a good attitude that won't get you burned out. Do your best and let God do the rest. In otherwords, keep being faithful to do your part, and trust God to complete the work He started through you.
