Flame Of God (Amy Carmichael)

Flame Of God

From prayer that asks that I may be

Sheltered from winds that beat on Thee,

From fearing when I should aspire,

From faltering when I should climb higher

From silken self, O Captain, free

Thy soldier who would follow Thee.

From subtle love of softening things,

From easy choices, weakenings,

(Not thus are spirits fortified,

Not this way went the Crucified)

From all that dims Thy Calvary

O Lamb of God, deliver me.

Give me the love that leads the way,

The faith that nothing can dismay

The hope no disappointments tire,

The passion that will burn like fire;

Let me not sink to be a clod;

Make me Thy fuel, Flame of God.

---------Amy Wilson Carmichael

Brother Mike thanks! I really loved hearing this quoted by Ravenhill but its great to see the whole text here. She did really seem to have such a fervor in her writing. I have been reading E.M. Bounds on prayer and it has really hit me that his fervor was one of the keys of his praying. He recalls as a methodist that the early methodist used to never have heating in their meeting houses but they would warm the place with fervent praying and the fire in the pew. Now thats preaching and praying for you.

 Re:

It was with you in mind my friend...

Like "Let me not sink to be a clod"

Though I knew of her, haven't read much of her writing, but that will surely change. Very endearing already, love her personality.

Mike
I would strongly encourage you to do so. She is certainly one of my favourite writers. I said this elsewhere but I'll repeat it... if you only have time to read one book, read 'If..'

and may you never recover!
