 From Purtian to Pornographer

Having viewed online the video The Inquisition, and in view of the thread, Why read the Puritans today?,and with the thread on pornography it makes one wonder, what IS going on?

How did we get from having Puritans in the pulpit to pornographers in the pulpit?

To what extent has the church of Jesus Christ fallen when we see the western churches as they are today?

How are they today? Godless, for the most part, or, can we not see that?

The word of God says ..let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity, 2 Tim 2v19.

The thing is, we excuse sin, because we have an unbelievably low view of God.

The world is 'tolerant', so the church feels it has to become tolerant.

God does not tolerate sin. He never has and never will. No one gets away with sin. No one.

I don't want to go on and on, but none of us should excuse sin in our lives.

If we truly knew what it means to love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity, Eph 6v24, we would hate sin.

We have quite a way to go.

God bless.

Amen! Let this be a reminder for myself personally.
There is no excuse for sinning, thank God for the cross! :)

 Re: From Purtian to Pornographer

This assumes that all Puritan preachers were in the state of sinless perfection... but we know that there were wolves among the flock even at that time.

We shouldn't be suprised, the Word tells us to expect these things. The fact of the matter is that any preacher who gets up into a pulpit is just a man. God can use balaam's donkey, he can use a sinful preacher to convert people.

The person who brought me to church is no longer in the flock... God works in mysterious ways.

Instead of wondering how this happened, we should search our own hearts to see that it doesn't happen in me. Frankly speaking, I know the things that can come from my heart, my old nature, and I'm not about to cast the first stone.

 Re:

You know what, never heard of every puritan preacher, but the ones I have heard of were godly.

The majority of pastors that I have heard of in this day and age seem to be missing the fear of God.

The fact that we close our eyes to the sin of others only means we do that because we don't want to be accountable for our own sin.

But we are.

1 Cor 11v31, 'For if we would judge ourselves we would not be judged'.

A good number of Christians know that verse, but what about verse 32.

'But when we are judged...'

When we are judged, not if, when.

'...we are chastened by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world'.

If we do not want to be condemned with the world then we cannot overlook sin in our lives and in the pulpit.

The church is in a mess, like it or not.

And I don't like it.

God wants us to humble ourselves before Him.

We seem to have lost even what that means.

Sin is not mourned or grieved over, it is laughed away, overlooked and disregarded.

The word of God tells us that judgment begins at the house of God.

We could go on to say that means the individual, or the church, even both.

But it will begin, or has it already?

Pray for revival before judgment comes.

We can have one or the other, which is it?

God bless.
