 Sin of Sodom

I was reading Ezekiel 16:49 and Romans 1:18-31 this morning. Ezekiel 16 talks of Sodom and the sin of Sodom. I was amazed that in listing the sins of Sodom, homosexuality and immorality wasn't mentioned. You would think that these would be the first ones mentioned. The sins of Sodom are as listed "..arrogance, abundant food, careless ease, but not helping the poor and needy. Thus (as a result) they were haughty and committed abominatons."

Notice it says "as a result they committed abominations (the sexual sins)". The immorality of the young and old in Sodom was simply fruit of a deeper sin - the pride, the ease, the abundance and lack of giving.

Romans 1 is similar to it when it says "they knew God, yet didn't give God the glory or give thanks but had vain imaginations and foolish hearts darkened". they exchanged His glorious person for the image made by corruptible man. They exchanged truth for a lie and worshiped man instead of God. 1:26 says "For THIS REASON, God gave them over to degrading passions..." And then it describes the lusts of men.

It is this type of nation "the wrath of God is revealed against" - those who suppress the truth in unrighteousness.

Pornography a billion dollar industry, mostly coming out of the states. Homosexuality on the brink of beng legalized. Rapes, incese, abuse - even taking place in the house of God. These are simply fruits because of our abundance, our ease, our pride.

God won't wink at it. He won't be mocked. Those who sow to the flesh will reap corruption.

More than ever, we must be those that make a distinction between Spirit and flesh, holy and profane.

Revival isn't an option. We are in desparate need of another Pentecost.

 Re: Sin of Sodom

The homosexuality in Sodom was obviously a sin and a reproach, and an abomination before God. However, the root of their sin was what was mentioned in Ezekiel. They had gone so far over the edge that they hit rock bottom, and thats when sins like homosexuality come into play.

In other words, it was probably a very subtle thing at first. Too rich, too much leisure... and when man is rich and just sitting around he has the amazing ability to fall into debauchery. Look at King David. 2 Samuel makes it clear that the opportunity to sin came about because he stayed at home and laid around the palace instead of being out in the field with his army.

I personally think that when a society is overrun by homosexuality and other sexually immorality it is the death pants of a nation. It shows that there isnt much time left. They are dying.

And I think thats where America is today.

So while homosexuality was a great and terrible sin in Sodom, it was a result of a root of sin in the society as a whole.

This is why God was so stern in the OT about killing those who committed certain sins, and also adament that when the children of Israel fought another nation that they kill every living creature. It was to root out the sin so it didnt "leaven the lump", as it were.

... and by the way, they disobeyed... and they paid dearly for it.

Oh, how we need revival! Folks we need to know Jesus and know the Bible. When people around us are asking, "how did we get here?", when they are at pains to explain the moral landslide of our culture, we can tell them exactly how we got here. The wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness.

Until this culture understands that our problems are the result of godlessness and unrighteousness, they will continue treating the symptoms while ignoring the disease.

In Christ,

Ron

 Re:

The ONLY cure for a sin-sick society is LIFE. 1 John 1:4 In Him was Life and that Life was the light of men.

It's the Life of God within a church. Not religion. Not programs. Not organizations. Life.

I heard a preacher say "the church didn't birth life, the church was born as a result of Life, and the church was maintained by that same Life"

We need to return to the old paths like our brother Greg Gordon exhorts us to in his articles.

The same life in Paul, in Peter, in the early church is the same Life in us. Elijah was a man with the same nature as ours. These men weren't any more human than we are. They were surrounded by the same temptations, same spirit of this age, and the same pressures. Yet they knew the Spirit of God within them was greater and overcome as a result.

We need to be put off the old man and put on the new. The flesh will never do the will of God. It will forever be hostile and an enemy to Life. But in this new covenant we live by the law of faith in an abiding Christ who causes us to will and to do His good pleasure.
