Just my 2 cents but I found that plain old pencil crayons make great highlighters because it doesn't bleed and isn't annoyingly neon bright.

I'm not big on margin notes as I think it looks messy after a while. I keep a separate notebook and can scribble in there to my heart's content. :-P

Gel pen will probably get through a page; ball pen would damage the page...

How about highlighter?


I use a STAEDTLER pigment liner 0.05mm for the pen, this works very well. And for the highlighter I use "kids pencil crayons" there is a type that is called "twistable crayons" I found them to work the best by far: http://www.crayola.com/products/display.cfm?product=40

I use Zebright highlighters.

They have never bled through my india paper Bibles. They come in many colors too.

I highly recommend them.
