Revival Hymn Re-Mix?

This thread is in relation to the quite popular compilation:

The Revival Hymn

I am proposing that we Re-Mix the compilation with the exact same voices but with no music. I would like to have a copy on the site that does not have music and also with possibly quiter music in the background (copyright free).

if you are interested in helping with this project or have comments or suggestions post a reply.

In the meantime let us re-emphasize that the thing that matters is that no 'truth', 'doctrine', theory or teaching, whether it be good or doubtful, must ever be allowed to become either an end in itself, or a sidetrack. It must never be taken out of the essential context of God's full purpose. - Sparks

 Re: Revival Hymn Re-Mix?

This is a very good idea. I do have one comment. I'm wondering if you or someone here has the software tools to remove or reduce the distortion/noise in the recordings, particularly the Duncan Campbell recording. I know such tools exist but I don't have them nor the funds to purchase them. I would be happy to help with the project in other ways though.

In Christ,

Ron

I am sure some people would have tools that could do this, I have a few that help but I am not a very experienced user of some of them.

 Re:

I'm no expert... but I do know a little bit about sound... and it is very difficult to take a low quality recording and make it sound like a high quality recording. It's kind of like "polishing a turd"... it's still a turd.

The thing is that these mp3's are old tape recordings and are sometimes distorted, and I'm not sure there is too much you can do to improve them.

However, if a voice is muddy, bassy, and unclear (like some of Tozer's recordings are) You can EQ them and it is very helpful, removing some of the bass frequencies and adding mids helps his voice stand clear in the mix. Also, if a particular mp3 is hissing, try removing the high frequencies.

Then again, I am not up to date with the latest technology, and now days they can make anybody sound good on radio/tv. So maybe it's possible to remove the distortion.

Adam :-)

 Re:

It seems to me that the music that would best fit this kind of old-time church preaching is old-time church singing. There are a few church sites out there that have good congregational music and are offered without copyright.

I wish there were more. The fact that more churches do not see value in their own congregational worship is just one more symptom of our entertainment-driven worship mindset. So I thank God for the churches out there that see the value of plain, simple, passionate congregational singing of those glorious old hymns.

 Re: Revival Hymn Re-Mix?

I have a professional quality recording studio at my house. I have the ability to take the noise out of the recordings, I have friends who can play soft acoustic guitar, and some who can play some soft piano in the background also, and I can record it all at pro quality. I can have them play original stuff, we can listen to the Revival Hymn and write the parts specifically for the voices and messages, so the timing will be really well done.

So I can help with a lot of the stuff you need, just send me a message and we can talk more about it.

 Re:

Sounds great brother, I think someone else can find all the sermons and clip all the parts numbering them and then get all those to you. So here could be some of the steps:

1. cliping of sermons
2. numbering those clips
3. cleaning up clips (de-noising)
4. increasing bitrate quality
5. layout the voices into one file
6. create some background music to go with the recording.
7. place background music with voices.

I think someone can help with steps 1-2 and then Taylor if you have a heart to continue with it till completion that would be great brother. I think it would be good to have a version that would be just the voices and a version with the music in the background!

As soon as someone volunteers to start finding and clipping the sermons then we can start, if you desire to help with that process or do it yourself taylor let me know.

Praise God this is going to be excellent.

 Re:

OK Sounds good, Basically if someone would be kind enough to link to all the sermons and what order they go in, I will download them all and start clipping and then to match when the voices came in on the original (the part that will take the longest is the first few minutes where the clips change pretty fast.) After I have all the clips arranged. I will save a version with no background music and then listen to it with friends and get some original parts going that are softer and go with the voices.
