Hi Doug - you touched a spiritual nerve in me. We all need this!Extreme Prayer (High Quality) by David Smithershttps://www.sermonindex.net/modules/mydownloads/viewcat.php?cid=111Praying for Revival by Richard Owen Robertsan 8 minute + telephone interview with one of my favorite preachers.https://www.sermonindex.net/modules/mydownloads/viewcat.php?cid=279One preacher here Ernest O'Neill has a nice series with some good sermons on prayer in the "Spiritual Life Series". Look around worldinvisible.comThe Place of Prayer in Revival by J. Edwin OrrThe Role of Prayer in Spiritual Awakening (video) by J. Edwin Orrhttps://www.sermonindex.net/modules/mydownloads/viewcat.php?cid=11&min=80&orderby=titleA&show=20Dr. Orr's Testimony by J. Edwin Orr includes some nice thoughts on prayer, some amazing answers to prayer, and the use of a prayer diary.https://www.sermonindex.net/modules/mydownloads/viewcat.php?cid=11&min=20&orderby=titleA&show=20Almost anything by Jim Cymbala is good - he focuses a lot on prayer. He's got 2 sermons in the top 20 downloads (just look to the left on this page. "Calling on the name of the Lord" in audio and video, and "My house shall be called a house of prayer" on video. His main page has many sermons touching prayer.https://www.sermonindex.net/modules/mydownloads/viewcat.php?op=&cid=35Anything you can find by Brother Lawrence. I thought I saw an audio somewhere here. The book "The Practice of the Presence of God" and the newer version, "Practicing His Presence" with reflections by Frank Laubach are both good. Very short, about praying without ceasing. There are many books available for free on the internet. Here at SI look under ~Other Speakers A-F : eBooks (non-audio) : You'll find several there. My advice - or part of it - would be to set a time for prayer, and spend an hour or more daily. This is an appointment with the Holy one. Start a list of things that you believe God wants out of your life and be obedient to Him. Have faith. The many voices and distractions that come are designed to keep you off your knees. Set your mind on things above (the true world) not on things below. I notice that most of the distraction I experience in prayer is in the form of things of this world, whether cars, computers, chicken salad or conversations with friends, they're not for you to carry into the presence of God. Finally, get a good grasp on the subject and on the theology surrounding it, repent, confess and when you can go boldly (but contritely, I feel) into God's presence through the veil, by the new and living way which is Christ Jesus.I'd say 'good luck' but I don't believe in it. Better... may you find God's Peace.Jeffrey

Thanks! Who is David Smithers?Doug
David Smithers is, by the way he sounds, a young man with a heart for God. He stresses the need for prayer and brokenness before the Lord.He communicates in a way that I believe can appeal to the younger generation without alienating the older. He is a student of Christian biographies, and has written a couple short ones that I've found online. He seems to be real sound in theology. I've listened to most of his sermons at SI. Aside for some of them ending in mid-sentence, I was blessed by what the brother has to sayJeffrey
