"Isn't it staggering when you think that one sermon on the day of
Pentecost produced 3000 people? And we had some cities yesterday
where 3000 sermons were preached and nobody was saved. And
it doesn't even faze us."
-Leonard Ravenhill

"We may be preaching, or praying, or teaching, or merely doing some menial task in the service of God, but if it is done under man’s pressure, then it will not be acceptable to God. If you perform anything for God at any time simply under compulsion, or for what you can get out of it on earth, then there will be no reward for you in heaven. God demands willing service." - Bakht Singh

"You have escaped from the great tribulation on account of your faith, and because you did not doubt in the presence of such a beast. Go, therefore, and tell the elect of the Lord His mighty deeds, and say to them that this beast is a type of the great tribulation that is coming. If then ye prepare yourselves, and repent with all your heart, and turn to the Lord, it will be possible for you to escape it, if your heart be pure and spotless, and ye spend the rest of the days of your life serving the Lord blamelessly." - The Shepherd of Hermas (95-150)

"There is nothing like life's drudgery to make men and women of us. You chafe under it. You sigh for leisure, to be freed from bondage to hours, to duties, to tasks, to appointments, to rules, to the treadmill round. Yet this is God's school for you. It may be a cross. Yes—but all true blessing comes to us hidden under the ruggedness and the heaviness of a cross. We do not grow most in the easiest life. Accept your treadmill round, your plodding, your dull task-work, and do all well—do always your best—and you will grow into strong, noble character." - J.R. Miller

"Do not make the mistake of assuming that Samson was some kind of flash-in-the-pan. Twice we read that he judged Israel for a period of twenty years. He was also a very humble man and humility is very rare among men. Especially is this so among those who are outstanding in some field of human endeavor. Had Samson lived today he would have been known around the world. He actually killed a lion with his bare hands, but the record says that he did not even tell his father or his mother (Judges 14:6). Later on, when passing by the same way, he turned aside to see the carcass of the lion. He found a swarm off bees in the carcass took some of the honey and went back to the path and gave it to his father and mother. He still did not tell them the story of what had happened. In both cases, they were traveling with him, but he, being young and strong, was well out in front of his parents. If a modern-day Christian was to kill a mouse he would have to publish it in the Gospel Gazette! God loves humility." - Bill Mcleod

 Re:

Excellent quote from Bill Mcleod.
I had heard something very similar from another teacher/preacher that was about Paul being caught up to the third heaven and how he had kept the details of the event to himself - whereas, if it had happened to some today - they'd be on every Christian Broadcast on TV and having book-signing days world-wide, on their book about the 'trip'.

"In my mind today, the picture I have is a church in a diabetic coma that has gorged itself on the sweets of affluence, materialism, and the idolatry of worshipping the materialistic world. That diabetic coma is now life threatening. We as a church are at the point of death – not the church in the Middle East. We are the ones who can no longer rouse ourselves to even pray for an hour on behalf of things that God would have us pray for." - Carl Moeller

"Every preacher whom God has sent will have a message to some souls who have not been reached by any other. And the more persons attend his preaching the better; the more room there is for God to work." - John Wesley
