Dear PaulWest,

What a blessing it was to read your post. I have a question about what we are to do during that time; you said God might withdraw His presence because of our sin and to not try to rehab ourself. Are you saying that if we have backslidden into some sin or have some besetting sin that we are NOT suppose to try to stop this sin? Just need to clarify for my own understanding.

 Re:

ArtB: About the whole "Jesus is Lord" thing...

I used to think so. But i found out that Mormons can easily say "Jesus is Lord"; it's not foolproof. I've also tested people using the question, "Who do you say Jesus Christ is" and found that even a heretic was able to say He is God in the flesh.

Also, you have the verse wrong. It does not say "Jesus is Lord" it says "Jesus is THE Lord". see below...

1Cor.12:3 Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and [that] no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.

Maybe that is the mistake i made when i tried to test the Mormon. Cuz if you just say he is lord, well that could mean he is just one among many...

 Re:

You might consider reading some of Oswald Chambers writings. I believe he went through most of his life of silence with the Holy Spirit. There were glimpses at times in his life where he would experience the Holy Spirit in a real way. IMO he has the best devotional out there. Utmost for His highest if you are interested. His depth and understanding in scriptures and God is something that is nonetheless and experience with the Holy Spirit.

But we should all examine where we are at in our lives, sometimes silence is a very good thing and sometimes its something He is chastening us for.

Remember other circles/ denominations in the Christianity treat the Holy Spirit as a vending machine experience.

First, let me say that I am glad the post was a blessing to you. I prayed it would be for some people.

Regarding not attempting to "rehabilitate" yourself from a besetting sin, I meant that during these dark seasons we should not try to work up willpower to refrain from sinning. If we in our own efforts of rehabilitation succeed for a time, it will only be our continual burden to keep that particular sin at bay. This may well work for a time - sometimes quite a stretch of time - before, inevitably, our strength will give out and we will fall prey to it once again. And the tragic thing is that the more willpower we exerted at the onset, the deeper the depression we sink into when we at last realise it was all for nothing.

Instead, we should allow God to rehabilitate us. This means we stop trying to be good in our own power, because our trying to be good and fix ourselves only impedes the Holy Spirit's process of teaching us the futility of God's sanctification through human willpower. Anyone who struggles with internet pornography, for instance, knows the process. Willpower to rehabilitate ourselves from it and abstain may satisfy the conscience for a season, but the beast is ultimately being kept on a leash which we hold - not God. All it takes is a sudden incitement to awaken the beast and the leash is suddenly ripped from our hands and we see who was in control all along.

No man or woman who is truly converted and born again of God wants to defile themselves with impure images and thoughts. Nobody who loves God and who has tasted of His majesty and grace wants their conscience defiled and communion with Him compromised - even temporarily. But to people who are unconverted and dead in sin, this is their normal, fretless state (blissfully unaware of their separation from God) and they indulge in these vices with voracity and glee. If they want to finally "kick" a shameful habit (because of job security or saving a marriage, et cetera), there are rehabilitation programs for this purpose engineered by psychologists. But God's children have a different way out.

The Lord knows your frame, He remembers you are made of dust (Psalm 104:14). He is fully cognizant of our base weaknesses and inclination to yield to temptation on account of our adamic nature, and though He never condones sin in any shape or form, He is full of indescribable mercy and Fatherly wisdom for those who cry out to Him night and day for deliverance. He ultimately takes our sins and failings and turns them around for our good (Romans 8:28). If we will not attempt to rehabilitate ourselves, we will eventually see God's method of divine rehabilitation predicated upon replacement and overpowerment. The principle of light banishing darkness. If you wait upon the Lord in darkness, He will one day so flood your being with His loveliness and fragrance of light that the power of our base lusts will be be diluted and hold no more conquering allurement. Once He does this, he shows us how to stay right with Him and how to protect our minds, through "girding it up" (I Pet. 1:13); "renewing it" (Eph 4:23); and the thoughts we should occupy our minds with to keep it pure and undefiled (Phil: 4:8). All throughout this journey, His grace will sustain us, we need not even lift a finger, though we trust Him for our daily bread of continual empowerment to abide in Jesus Christ and the impartation of His divine nature by faith.

Yours sustained wholly by God's grace,

Brother Paul

 Re:

Romans 6 - just for one very tiny portion of His N.T. Word on sin.

Each verse can be cross-referenced with any Bible program, such as e-sword, using Torrey's "Treasury of Scripture Knowledge".
Cross-referencing all the verses in Rom 6 [just for one small fragment of all that is written in the N.T. on 'sin'] is the seeking after GOD through His Word that He expects and our final authority - the Book that will be opened when we stand before in judgment besides the Book of Life.
He'll want to know from us - What have we done with 'His' Words since the N.T. was given to us.
That knowledge normally brings 'the fear of GOD' to where it should be. Thy Word have I hid in my heart that I not sin against Thee.
"If you Love Me [more than yourself] - you'll ...... "

 Re:

Where Is The Discernment here?

John, "The LORD" told you no such thing. Over the years, it can't help but be noticed that, whenever members begin to post truth, you always come back with the "feel sorry for ME" type posts. This has become so repetitive, I'm amazed that it's not obvious to most.

You had a phony conversion approx 8 yrs ago, and though OJ and I have differences in opinions, he was right - that you were never truly regenerated, By Your Own Choosing.

You hurt your back, working out at the gym, because you were proud of your body, as you admitted!

-

If we're to help anyone see the truth - we must have, at the least, a little background on who it is that we're trying to 'help' and how or where the problem 'started'.

These quotes come from Bible4Life's post dated - 4/16/2009 - almost 2 1/2 yrs ago, though it wasn't the first of these type threads and by far, not the last ...

"I mean when the lord came into my life 5 years ago i was changed, my desires and my life towards him, but not even 2 months into it i fell into sexual sin.."

Mar 4:18, 19 And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word, and the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.

So approx 8 yrs ago, he alledgely had not even 2 good months with GOD and ever since .....
"I have seen my self just grow worse and worse, my heart has become hardened and i can't hold onto my faith at all anymore, even when i try it is impossible. I am seeing myself fall back into my old sins and not being able to get out of them. I have this hatred in my heart towards people and i do not serve god anymore.."

This again is from 2 1/2 yrs ago and has gone on now for approx 8 yrs.

That is from just one of Very many threads that he's started on this forum since 2008 under his other sign-on name bible1985 and bible4life that are repeating the same "sin and hate" in his heart.
Do we tell him to continue in sin so that grace may abound or to choose ye this day whom you will serve?
Will we continue to hear, as in the other threads he's posted, that it's GOD that's not doing anything?
Are we helping him by allowing thread after thread on the exact same complaints against GOD?
From the same thread ---
""...why has God not forgiven me and given me the ability to have faith, has he given me an evil spirit to not believe."
https://www.sermonindex.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?mode=viewtopic&topic_id=28385&forum=35&start=0&viewmode=flat&order=0

The only thing I can say to John, after this many years and this Very many countless threads, where he repeats the same complaints Against GOD, is to GET TRULY SAVED and mean business when you come to Him .... that without loving Him more than yourself and getting your eyes off of yourself and your own desires and fearing Him - yes, you have proven by your OWN actions that you were never saved, are being used by Satan to shipwreck the faith of others [Yes - I've seen this tactic in the church before] and won't be saved until you mean business with Him and no matter what "job" you run to next - your sin will follow you, until you do get truly saved by coming to Him expecting nothing but what His Word says and consecrate your life to Him out of the Love for and Fear of GOD.
HE paid an Extreme price for our salvation from sin, death and Hell.
Quit trampling His blood and accusing Him - when you only used Him for a fire escape from day one.
I could easily pull up the endless amount of threads you've posted - but the young in Christ have been defiled enough and have had their own faith weakened enough by one thread after another since 2008. When the young in Christ or unsaved come to this forum and see countless threads, spanning over years by the same person and no one teaching him about loving GOD and the fear of GOD - How on earth can we ask others - "Has the church lost the fear of GOD?"

As Paul reprimanded the church at Corinth when they were boasting of their own mercy with blatant sin in their church ... we need to see when to rebuke and stop the coddling, as we have been.

Our minds are renewed by HIS WORD alone and not flowery speeches or sympathy that goes beyond what is Written, as the Corinthians were guilty of.

GOD IS 'GOOD' and His Salvation is effectual. A truly saved human that loves and fears GOD more than they love themselves will see progressive sanctification and not progressive backsliding... thus saith The WORD.

"Hebrews 3"

Jud 1:22, 23 And of some have compassion, making a difference: and others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.

 Re:

Thank you PaulWest for your testimony. It was very well written and it was the truth. I didn't know that Christians could go through these dry times even if there wasn't sin in their lives. I thought sin was always the reason. Well, I know in my life it was. But, what you said about just knowing that God still loves us is the most important thing, but it is also the hardest for me to walk out. I want to run and hide and medicate rather than abide in the love of God. it's especially tough when the Holy Spirit is far away. Thanks for posting though. It was such an encouragement.

ArtB thanks for your response.

Bible4life, you are going to pull through. You do eventually need to get beyond yourself in the grace of God, but I don't doubt that you are a Christian. The poster Jesus-is-God also tried to tell me that I wasn't a Christian, but this lady is as wrong as she could be. I'd advise you not to even bother reading her post.

You may have a problem similar to mine in that you have a lack of understanding of the love of God. I think if we are secure in His love, then are are much more free to love other people--especially other Christian people.
