Re:

If the enemy can succeed in bringing the Church to viewing benefit as the determinant by which something is judged to be of God, we may well have been brought to the very ground of deception itself.

"I am much afraid that schools will prove to be great gates of hell unless they diligently labor in explaining the Holy Scriptures, engraving them in the hearts of youth. I advise no one to place his child where the Scriptures do not reign paramount. Every institution in which men are not increasingly occupied with the Word of God must become corrupt."
-Martin Luther

 Re:

Some preachers master thier subjects; some subjects master the preacher; once in awhile one meets a preacher who is both master of, and also mastered by his subject. The apostle Paul, I am sure, was in that category.

 Re:

One of these days some simple soul will pick up the book of God, read it, and believe it. Then the rest of us will be embarrassed.

 Re: Great Quotes 8

“Depend upon it, if you are bent on prayer, the devil will not leave
you alone. He will molest you, tantalize you, block you, and will
surely find some hindrances, big or little or both. And we
sometimes fail because we are ignorant of his devices…I do not
think he minds our praying about things if we leave it at that. What
he minds, and opposes steadily, is the prayer that prays on until it
is prayed through, assured of the answer.” - Mary Warburton Booth

 Re: Great Quotes 8

“You have nothing to do but to save souls. Therefore spend and be
spent in this work. And go not only to those that need you, but to
those that need you most…It is not your business to preach so
many times, and to take care of this or that society; but to save
as many souls as you can; to bring as many sinners as you
possibly can to repentance.” – John Wesley

 Re: Great Quotes 8

“ I am born for God only. Christ is nearer to me than father, or
mother, or sister - a near relation, a more affectionate Friend; and I
rejoice to follow Him, and to love Him. Blessed Jesus! Thou art all
I want - a forerunner to me in all I ever shall go through as a
Christian, a minister, or a missionary." - Henry Martyn

 Re:

“I repeat my advice to read the Scriptures with prayer, to keep close to the important points, of human depravity, regeneration, the atonement, and the necessity of divine teaching. If a man is born again, hates sin, and depends upon the Savior for life and grace, I care not whether he be an Arminian or a Calvinist. If he be not born again, he is nothing, let him be called by what name he will.” (John Newton)

 Re:

“If we once get above our Bibles, and cease making the written Word of God sole rule both as to faith and practice, we shall soon lie open to all manner of delusion, and be in great danger of making shipwreck of faith and a good conscience. Our blessed Lord, though He had the Spirit of God without measure, yet always was governed by, and fought the devil with, 'It is written.'” (George Whitefield)
