Re:

Id love to hear someone sing thease old songs :-)

JESUS CHRIST IS RISEN TODAY C.Wesley

Jesus Christ is risen today, Alleluia!
Our triumphant holy day, Alleluia!
Who did once, upon the cross, Alleluia!
Suffer to redeem our loss, Alleluia!

Hymns of praise then let us sing, Alleluia!
Unto Christ, our heavenly King, Alleluia!
Who endured the cross and grave, Alleluia!
Sinners to redeem and save, Alleluia!

But the pains which He endured, Alleluia!
Our salvation hath procured, Alleluia!
Now above the sky He’s king, Alleluia!
Where the angels ever sing, Alleluia!

Sing we to our God above, Alleluia!
Praise eternal as His love, Alleluia!
Praise Him, all you heavenly host, Alleluia!
Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, Alleluia!

BLEST ARE THE UNDEFILED IN HEART I.Watts

Blest are the undefiled in heart,
Whose ways are right and clean;
Who never from Thy law depart,
But fly from every sin.

Blest are the men that keep Thy Word,
And practice Thy commands;
With their whole heart they seek the Lord,
And serve thee with their hands.

Great is their peace who love Thy law;
How firm their souls abide!
Nor can a bold temptation draw
Their steady feet aside.

Then shall my heart have inward joy,
And keep my face from shame,
When all Thy statutes I obey,
And honor all Thy Name.

But haughty sinners God will hate,
The proud shall die accursed;
The sons of falsehood and deceit
Are trodden to the dust.

Vile as the dross the wicked are;
And those that leave Thy ways
Shall see salvation from afar,
But never taste Thy grace.

Me too! Unfortunately, for most of them I know just the lyrics, but I hope I will learn to sing them one day! :-)

Christian, this has been my heart's longing that some blessed saint would take up the Spirit-filled ministry of recording the complete hymns of Charles Wesley and Isaac Watts.

It would take a lifetime, I think. There is a very blessed brother on SermonIndex named Russel who has recorded a few on his guitar. They have so deeply blessed me, I give thanks to God for him.

 Re:

i think most churches people would start twist and turn in the pews when some of the hymns of Wesley or Watts would be sung out, they are so rich, full of glory,mercy, the judgement, holiness and just so filled with the gospel!

 Re:

i remember i read one hymn by bonar and i was just choked, did someone acctually sing that? was my thought..... :-o

edit:
here it is, and it was the last stance that just got me, wont hear that song to much nowdays...

“Yet there is room”: the Lamb’s bright hall of song,
With its fair glory, beckons thee along;
Room, room, still room! O enter, enter now.

Day is declining, and the sun is low;
The shadows lengthen, light makes haste to go;
Room, room, still room! O enter, enter now.

The bridal hall is filling for the feast;
Pass in, pass in, and be the Bridegroom’s guest;
Room, room, still room! O enter, enter now.

It fills, it fills, that hall of jubilee!
Make haste, make haste; ’tis not too full for thee;
Room, room, still room! O enter, enter now.

Yet there is room: still open stands the gate,
The gate of love; it is not yet too late:
Room, room, still room! O enter, enter now.

O enter in; that banquet is for thee;
That cup of everlasting joy is free;
Room, room, still room! O enter, enter now.

All Heaven is there, all joy! Go in, go in;
The angels beckon thee the prize to win:
Room, room, still room! O enter, enter now.

Louder and sweeter sounds the loving call;
Come, lingerer, come; enter that festal hall;
Room, room, still room! O enter, enter now.

Ere night that gate may close, and seal thy doom;
Then the last low, long cry, “No room, no room!”
No room, no room! O woeful cry, “No room!”

 Re:

I wouldn't be able to get through most of them, if my church did Wesley and Watts hymns. I try to sing along on Cyberhymnal and just break down. My throat seizes up, tears flood. I can't continue singing, all I can do is bow my head and breathe as my spirit swells with God's love.

I remember when we sang "When I Survey the Wondrous Cross" before Keith Daniel preached in Mabank, Texas. Half-way through I just broke, and I couldn't physically sing. My spirit sang instead. It was blissful, heaven on earth. It was like a geyser of grace was just flooding my being. Mind you, I am used to the modern, weak songs most churches do nowadays with twanging guitars and drums and fleshy, crooning vocals. Addressing God like He's some fawning boyfriend or girlfriend. I hate it. And suddenly, I'm in Mabank, and I'm surrounded by a host of holy saints thristing to hear the man of God deliver the Word. When we all started singing that glorious hymn (and Keith sang it, too), the fathomless geyser burst forth.

Why don't more churches sing those holy hymns??

There is a famine indeed.

Brother Paul :cry:

I am blessed even reading this testimony!

Most of them would find offending singing hymns like "Come, ye sinners, poor and needy" and hymns about the blood of our Lord!

I believe many weary fellows have been led to Christ through this wonderful plea:

Come Ye Sinners, Words: Joseph Hart

Come, ye sinners, poor and needy,
Weak and wounded, sick and sore;
Jesus ready stands to save you,
Full of pity, love and power.

Come, ye thirsty, come, and welcome,
God’s free bounty glorify;
True belief and true repentance,
Every grace that brings you nigh.

Come, ye weary, heavy laden,
Lost and ruined by the fall;
If you tarry till you’re better,
You will never come at all.

View Him prostrate in the garden;
On the ground your Maker lies.
On the bloody tree behold Him;
Sinner, will this not suffice?

Lo! th’incarnate God ascended,
Pleads the merit of His blood:
Venture on Him, venture wholly,
Let no other trust intrude.

Let not conscience make you linger,
Not of fitness fondly dream;
All the fitness He requireth
Is to feel your need of Him.

Refrain
I will arise and go to Jesus,
He will embrace me in His arms;
In the arms of my dear Savior,
O there are ten thousand charms.

 Re:

Here is a hymn I heard sung once, the opening line was taken from a hymn by Charles Wesley

Let the world their virtue boast,
Their works of righteousness,
I, a wretch undone and lost,
Am freely saved by grace;

Take me Saviour as I am
Let me lose my sins in Thee
Friend of sinners, spotless Lamb
Thy blood was shed for me

Full of truth and grace Thou art
And here is all my hope
False and foul as hell my heart
To Thee I offer up

Thou wast given to redeem
My soul from iniquity
Friend of sinners spotless Lamb
Thy blood was shed for me

Nothing have I Lord to pay
Nor can Thy grace procure
Empty send me not away
For Thou knowest I am poor

Dust and ashes is my name
My all is sin and misery
Friend of sinners, spotless Lamb
Thy blood was shed for me

I remember singing the "false and foul as hell my heart" line, and it struck me just how polluted I really am, and how desperately needful of Christ I am.

 Re: Post your favorite Hymns here.

A hymn that our family loves it "come thou fount of every blessing"

Come, Thou Fount of every blessing,
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace;
Streams of mercy, never ceasing,
Call for songs of loudest praise.
Teach me some melodious sonnet,
Sung by flaming tongues above.
Praise the mount! I’m fixed upon it,
Mount of Thy redeeming love.

Sorrowing I shall be in spirit,
Till released from flesh and sin,
Yet from what I do inherit,
Here Thy praises I’ll begin;
Here I raise my Ebenezer;
Here by Thy great help I’ve come;
And I hope, by Thy good pleasure,
Safely to arrive at home.

Jesus sought me when a stranger,
Wandering from the fold of God;
He, to rescue me from danger,
Interposed His precious blood;
How His kindness yet pursues me
Mortal tongue can never tell,
Clothed in flesh, till death shall loose me
I cannot proclaim it well.

O to grace how great a debtor
Daily I’m constrained to be!
Let Thy goodness, like a fetter,
Bind my wandering heart to Thee.
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
Prone to leave the God I love;
Here’s my heart, O take and seal it,
Seal it for Thy courts above.

O that day when freed from sinning,
I shall see Thy lovely face;
Clothed then in blood washed linen
How I’ll sing Thy sovereign grace;
Come, my Lord, no longer tarry,
Take my ransomed soul away;
Send thine angels now to carry
Me to realms of endless day.

Awesome! Makes me want to praise and shout!!

Blessings,

Sean
