"Sir, if the Bible is a lie, I am as very a madman as you can conceive. But if it be true, I am in my senses. I am neither madman or enthusiast."

"The Contrite Heart: True repentance includes sorrow for sin and contrition of heart. It breaks the heart with sighs and sobs and groans, for a loving God and Father is by sin offended, a blessed Saviour afresh crucified, and the sweet Comforter, the Spirit, grieved and vexed."
-Thomas Brooks

 Re: Great Quotes 6

We must not admit for one moment the truth of a statement
often made, that the man who devotes himself to the
establishment of the church, declining to be involved in all
sorts of activities for the improvement of social conditions,
is indifferent to, or heedless of, the sufferings and
injustices under which men suffer. He is nothing of the kind:
he is simply a man who is sure of his foundation, and is
convinced that the only way to any true advancement is
spiritual, and is Christ; and therefore he persists, in spite
of all appearances, in clinging to Christ as the only
foundation, and in building all his hopes for the future on
the acceptance of Christ. He is not content with attacks upon
symptoms of evil; they seem to him superficial: he goes to the
roots. He cannot be content with teaching men Christian
principles of conduct, "Christian ideals of social life"--
still less with the establishment of colleges and clubs.
Nothing but Christ Himself, faith in Christ, the obedience of
Christ, seems to him equal to the need, and nothing else is
his work but the establishment of that foundation. In doing
this he is not showing indifference to social evils, he is not
standing aloof from beneficent movements; he is actively
engaged in laying the axe to the roots of the trees which bear
the evil. That is not indifference.

"God requires to be represented by a fiery Church. He can and does tolerate many things in the way of infirmity and error in His children. He can and will pardon sin when the penitent prays, but two things are intolerable to Him--insincerity and lukewarmness. Lack of heart, and lack of heat are two things that He loathes, and to the Laodiceans He said, in terms of unmistakable severity and condemnation: 'I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of My mouth' (Rev. 3:15,16). Nothing short of being red hot for God can keep the glow of heaven in our hearts these chilly days."
-E.M. Bounds

Labor NOW for Christ!

Improve the present moment! Why delay?
Why wait tomorrow when you have today?
Why plan for something that is hours hence?
You own no future hour--come, friend, commence!
w is the time for working--now, right now--
Work in the present moment, never bow
To some dim future with its beckoning hand.
Your promise is the present--take command!
Grip your life, and hold with strength your mind.
Know your purpose, leave all doubts behind.
Wait not a moment though the skies be grey.
Wait not tomorrow--make your start today!
Now is the time to toil to gain a crown;
Put in your best endeavor, cast sin down.
Wait not till feet stumble on the mountain dark.
Up! Gird your loins tighter; press for the mark!
If you would work for God it must be now;
If you would win the garlands for your brow,
Redeem the time. Know you not the time is short?
'Tis now for Christ your labor must be wrought.
Forget the past, and live the present hour,
God has designed to test your utmost power.
Be brave today; yield not to craven fears.
Who conquers now shall rule through endless years!

" He who seeks to abide in Christ must walk even as He walked. A branch bears fruit of the same sort as the vine to which it belongs. The life of the vine and the branch is so completely identical that the manifestation of that life must be identical too. When the Lord Jesus redeemed us with His blood, and presented us to the Father in His righteousness, He did not leave us in our old nature to serve God as best we could. No. In Him dwelt eternal life, and every one who is in Him receives from Him that same eternal life in its holy, heavenly power. So He that abides in Him must also walk even as He walked."

 Re:

To be "in the will of God" is not a matter of intellectual discernment, but a state of heart. To a sanctified soul the will of God is its implicit life, as natural as breathing. It is the sick man who knows intellectually what the will of God is; but a sanctified heart is the expression of the will of God. Its motto is --" My Father can do what he likes with me, He may bless me to death, or give me a bitter cup; I delight to do His will." " ....as unto a faithful Creator." The sovereignty of God is the greatest comfort to the saint. The soul of the sanctified saint is en rapport with God, he has no responsibility, he is "without carefulness: because his Father cares, God's predestinations are that soul's voluntary choosings. The pre-eminent mystery in this thought is the mystery of the nature of love: the saint knows, with a knowledge "which passeth knowledge". This truth is never discerned by the powerful in intellect, but only by the pure in heart.

 Re:

Do you need a revival in your own soul, in your church, in your town? Aren't the circumstances such as to prove that you greatly need a revival? Do you want one? You may need it, yet not be urgent to have one. Are you willing to be awakened? Or, rather, do you desire it, and are not willing to pursue it?

Do you feel its necessity? Are you ready to make the sacrifices essential to promote it? Are you ready to lay aside every weight and every other concern, and enter heart and soul into the promotion of a spiritual awakening in your community? Are you ready to fulfill all the conditions upon which a revival can be had? In view of the solemn judgment, decide as you will wish you had when you stand before Jesus!
