'This fasting...is very good, provided the commandments of the Lord be observed...First of all, be on your guard against every evil word, and every evil desire, and purify your heart from all the vanities of this world. If you guard against these things, your fasting will be perfect.' - The Shepherd of Hermas
Even in the Church we have lost our sense of the holiness of God.
You know Charles Wesley gave us that wonderful children’s hymn gentle Jesus meek and mild look upon the little child. But you know some people never get past gentle Jesus.
Has lost the fear of God. There is no fear of God left in the land. This is what the Bible says. Fear the Lord and depart from evil. The fear of the Lord is to hate evil. By mercy and truth iniquity is purged. And by a fear of the Lord men depart from their evil. From the fear of the Lord.
A reverent fear of God. Which brings freedom and it is because many Christians do not have that reverent fear of God that they do not come into freedom.
Call it what you want, reverential awe. Call it what you want. But there is such a thing remember that God is not mocked, there is such a thing as looking at the majesty and holiness of God.
A one-sided Christianity always speaks about always being sure that you are accepted before God. God loves you brother. Remember God loves you just as you are, His love is unconditional. It’s all true! But if you only look at that you have one side of God and you got a one-sided God and you will see the end result of that the way you live.
The other is the fear that I may hurt God.
There is no awe no sense of fear. No deep respect! That He is a living God and a seeing and knowing God. And we can’t get away with our little gitchee goo and cutting corners as if He does not observe it.
