| | Church History - Session 1 (The Book of Acts 2) by Edgar F. Parkyns
Topic: Scripture(s): Acts 813, Galatians 1:152:13 | | Description: Parkyns wraps up his insightful commentary on the conversion of the Ethiopian in Acts 8 and digs out nuggets of truth from the salvation experience of Paul (Acts 9) and then Cornelius, the first Gentile Christian (Acts 10). Parkyns shows both triumph and tragedy of the apostolic church, and how even Jesus best apostles can get put on the shelf through prejudice and delayed obedience. He shows how God began to use insignificant men and the apostle Paul at Antioch to bring His promised blessing to the Gentile world.

Definitely a 4+ - this is great insight! | | I love Parkyn's ability to sift out chaff from the wheat. I know I have read through Acts many times, but I have not seen the clarity of mistakes the apostles made as he drew out. It makes my heart to fear how if great men like these can falter, I need to take heed in those same areas. I got out of this teaching how powerful human tradition is and if I don't walk in what God has shown me, He will find someone else. I appreciate the warmth of picking up the glowing testimony these men must have had at conversion and the wit Mr. Parkyn's displays. |
