The Coming and Going of the Disciples by Dick Woodward

Topic: Discipleship
Scripture(s): Matthew 7:7-12
Description: Jesus told His followers to make a commitment to “look up.” That is how we receive the spiritual disciplines and values that come from God. Jesus used continuous verbs for “asking, seeking, and knocking” in order to challenge His disciples to look up continuously and with perseverance. Seeking is repeated and intense asking, and knocking is repeated and intense seeking. Jesus was calling His disciples to be people who are passionate for God. He promised that everyone who asks, seeks, and knocks in this way will be answered. Then Jesus summed up His ethical teaching with one sentence: “Do to others what you would have them do to you.” This is known as the Golden Rule.

27 Principle 23 - Cults, False Gospels, and Division by Principles For The Gathering of Believers

Topic: Audio Books
Scripture(s): 1 John 4:1, Matthew 12:25, 1 Corinthians 11:19
Description: Religious freedom has its benefits for unhindered preaching of the Gospel. These freedoms have allowed some vibrant godly forms of Christianity to grow and prosper and yet these freedoms have sadly also allowed many of the vilest perversions of Christianity to prosper. One cannot begin to calculate the effects of cults, heretical groups and false gospels that have been allowed to prosper under the banner of religious freedom and expression.

Take Heed of Sinning in Thought by Ralph Venning

Topic: Audio Books
Scripture(s): Matthew 12:35
Description: (Excerpts from Ralph Venning’s book - The Sinfulness of Sin (Printed in 1669), read by Ryan Martin. Seeing that sin is so sinful, it is evil even to be a thinking sinner, or a sinner though only in thought. It is too commonly said that thoughts are free. They are indeed free in respect of men, who cannot judge us for them, but God can and will. Many people who seem to be modest and sparing as to evil words and deeds will still make bold with thoughts and, as the saying is, pay it with thinking. Such are speculative, contemplative sinners.

United with God's Children by Erlo Stegen

Topic: Sin
Scripture(s): Matthew 26:47-50
Description: There’s no sin so wicked and depraved as this of Judas. He knew the Lord Jesus well, saw His miracles and bore the money bag. He was trusted. He felt the love that Jesus showed to people. He saw the prophesies being fulfilled before his eyes, that Jesus was the Messiah, the Son of God. Sadly though satan found entrance, little by little. We don’t know the exact cause, but maybe he was proud that he had a position that was higher than the others. He was trusted by the others and the Lord to be the treasurer. A person can be proud because of anything, their clothing, position, beauty, wealth etc.

 Gifts by A.W. Tozer

Topic: Gifts
Scripture(s): John 3:16, Matthew 20:28, Acts 20:35
Description: Length: 40 minutes, 54 seconds. Evident in this message, entitled “Gifts,” is A. W. Tozer’s mastery of homiletics. From John 3:16, Matthew 20:28, Acts 20:35, he asks us to note four truths: 1) the father gave his Son, 2) the Son gave his life, 3) they did so in order that we might be ransomed, and 4) it is more blessed to give than to receive. Dr. Tozer then considers who we might want to thank some day for the gifts that they gave to Jesus. The wise men gave gold (lasting treasure), frankincense (worship), and myrrh (bitter sacrifice); Mary gave her mortal body; Joseph gave his faith; the shepherds gave their reverent wonder; Lazarus and his sisters, Mary and Martha, gave the welcome of their home; the women following Jesus gave a seamless, linen robe; and Joseph of Arimathaea gave his own, new grave. These are the gifts that they gave to Jesus. What might we give him that we might not be outdone in giving?

The Curse Of Pornography by Erlo Stegen

Topic: Pornography
Scripture(s): Matthew 28:16, Hebrews 13:4
Description: (Erlo Stegen shares in the Zulu language with English translation.) Scientists say that when you look at pornography there are chemicals that are automatically released in the brain which changes the brain in such a way that it alters it's structure. Porn rewires you. Adam and Eve didn't know they were naked, but when they sinned they became aware of it and were ashamed. God Himself then slaughtered an animal and clothed them with the skins. This was a pointer towards the time when Jesus would be slaughtered for our sins on the Cross. The Bible says marriage should be honoured by all and the marriage bed undefiled, for God will judge the adulterers (Hebrews 13:4). Pornography is an evil drug, worse than dagga (marijuana) and many other drugs. Looking at pornography makes you a slave to it. It's easier to stop smoking or drinking than to get free from pornography.

Obedience of Faith - Illustrated by the Disciples on the Stormy Sea by Ed Miller

Topic:
Scripture(s): Mark 6:32-52, Matthew 13:13-33, John 6:1-21
Description: Ed Miller shows how futile it is to try to obey God apart from a miracle. Miller develops three ways disciples can relate to the Lord Jesus as occurs in the account on the stormy sea: Jesus on the mountain, Jesus on the sea, and Jesus on the boat. "God always deals with us as we are and where we are in order to make us what He wants us to be and to bring us to the place that He wants us." (NOTE: Pt. 1: "Obedience of Grace - Illustrated by Noah")

Forgiving and Being Forgiven by Roy Hession

Topic: Forgiveness
Scripture(s): Mark 11:25, Matthew 5:23-25
Description: Debt and guilt are the same before God and it is a great debt that we owe Him due to our guilt before Him. Thus our forgiveness came at the greatest cost to Him the death of His Son, the Lord Jesus. And it is not without a cost that we are to forgive others as we have been forgiven, to forgive means to forgoe our rights and to suffer the cost. Pastor Hession shows that at the root of unforgiveness is pride saying 'I wont forgive this person, they have violated my rights!' and also that when we are wronged and forgive then when the person comes and ask forgiveness we will be able to say 'There is nothing to forgive' as it is an old account that has been settled, just as ours was on Calvary.
