Starving the Work of Christ by Carter Conlon

Topic: The Lord's Work
Scripture(s): Genesis 45:1-12
Description: May 10, 2009 - We are living in a time in history where there is intensified pain. Most of this pain comes from family issues broken marriages the heart break of a wayward child and betrayals. There is a pathway of pain that God will allow us to go through so that we might be used to bring provision and life to others. If we are to represent Christ in our generation there will be an incredible personal cost. The key through this pain is forgiveness. When we withhold forgiveness from those who have hurt us we begin to starve the work of Christ. The same people who betrayed us will come back to us one day empty hurt and starving. Will you choose to forgive them and allow them to experience the mercy of God?

(Through The Bible) Genesis 15-18 by Chuck Smith

Topic: Expositional
Scripture(s): Genesis 15-18
Description: ‘The Word of the Lord’ this is first time it is used in this chapter. It is always significant to mark the first time a new phrase or name of God is used. This is the first time also that says He is the “I AM” the shield and great reward. It is amazing how sometimes we can rethink vivid memories and experiences; this is what happened to Abraham. He was having an flash back from the prior war with the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah, and God comforted him saying I am your shield. The first thing God says to Abraham is ‘Fear not’ when we are in right standing with God we never have to worry, God is our shield, if we have the Lord we have defense. God wants to be our protector and provider. Lord God = Adoni Jehovah. Adoni is the title of God = Lord. This name of God signifies relationship with God. Jesus = name Kurios (Lord) = title. And He believed in the Lord and God counted it for righteousness. This phrase is repeated in the New Testament many times. Our righteousness is imputed to us as we believe in the promise of God. He does not account my prayer, works, for righteousness but my belief. Paul the apostle talked of his works of the law but that never made him righteous before God.

The Abrahamic Faith (1 of 2) by Art Katz

Topic: Abrahamic Faith
Scripture(s): Genesis 15
Description: An in-depth study from Genesis 15 of Abraham's faith that had its birthing in a vision. God's whole theocratic design for creation rested on one man's ability to hear a voice and respond. All nations would be affected by his obedience, and as Art points out, true faith is not faith unless it is a faith unto cutting and death. This is the obedience of faith.

Jacob Meeting God by Leonard Ravenhill

Topic: Jacob
Scripture(s): Genesis 32
Description: "greate birds fly alone; the lion goes hunting alone; great fishes swim alone. great men walk alone". In his own emittable segway, right after the previous quote, he states, "i know you didn't say amen, but it's still there". This message is about how God strips every man he chooses to use as his chosen instrument everything that the person relies upon themselves to carry them in their daily life. In this case, Jacob relied on his physical strength, not to mention he also was a cheater.

(Through The Bible) Genesis 32-36 by Chuck Smith

Topic: Through The Bible
Scripture(s): Genesis 32-36
Description: God has angels to take care and protect over us. Chuck smith recalls of some times when he believes and angel saved him from harm, he was consciously aware of the working of an angel. Jacob prays and reminds the Lord of what he said, there is something that is good to remind the Lord of his promises. When Jacob fled from his brother Esau he left just with the walking stick in his hand, but now when he has returned he had many flocks. In the present he gave to Esau was 500 animals which was just part of what he had. An honest negative confession is worse then a positive dis-honest confession. It is best to be honest when you talk with God, who are you kidding; He knows your heart and everything about you. There is no hiding of anything to God; everything is open and naked before him. Faith is not passive but active. But God wants us to trust in His ability to do His work. Jacob wrestles with an angel and would not give up and surrender, so when the angel saw he would not surrender he crippled Jacob. One of Jacob’s thoughts was that he could always flee; now the Lord through this crippling has taken away this way of his escape in the flesh. This is an good illustration of what God has to do sometimes to get a person to a place of dependence on the Lord.
