| | (Genesis) - Part 16 by Zac Poonen
Topic: Ishmael Scripture(s): Genesis 16:1-17:14 | | Description: The birth of Ishmael is a picture of doing things for God but not after God's way. What we first call victory over sin is only an Ishmael, our own efforts under law. When we come to our wits end and are broken like Abraham, then we can be a prince with God.

| | Don´t flee from difficulties by Erlo Stegen
Topic: Difficulties Scripture(s): Genesis 16:7-13 | | Description: The angel of the Lord appeared to Hagar. This is the first time we read of the angel of the Lord in the Old Testament. In the Old Testament specifically the angel of the Lord is referred to as having a divine nature. He is holy as God is holy. It is believed that He is the Lord Jesus revealing Himself to man. He has always been. When the Pharisees accused Jesus, He said, "Abraham rejoiced to see my day", and, "before Abraham was, I am". Sarah took the matter of her barrenness into her own hands and handed her handmaid to her husband as wife. It's a cursed thing for people not to be able to wait upon God. When Hagar saw that she conceived she despised her mistress, and Sarah suffered. She blamed Abraham and Hagar for her suffering which she brought upon herself. But Abraham told her that it's her slave and it was her idea, so she should do what she thinks best. So Sarah made life impossibly difficult for Hagar. Hagar was also haughty, obstinate and irritated.

| | (Genesis) - Part 14 by Zac Poonen
Topic: Abraham Scripture(s): Genesis 13:4-14:19, Hebrews 7:1-3 | | Description: The contrast between Abraham and Lot is a contrast between believers today. Lot is a picture of a righteous man but one who chooses for himself, not trusting God to choose for him. Melchizedek's coming on the scene into Abraham's life is a picture of the New Covenant priesthood of blessing others.

| | One thing you can't do in Heaven by Mark Cahill
Topic: Evangelism Scripture(s): 1 Corinthians 12:7-10, Genesis 13:10-13 | | Description: "What's it going to take to get out of your comfort zone?" asks Mark Cahill about how much we truly care for souls in light of 600,000 people entering eternity each time we put our head on our pillow. Mark is very serious, very convicting, as well as very humble and compassionate. This is a much-needed message in our day of awakening us to our opportunity and responsibility to honor and glorify God in our one earthly life. (Preached on Nov. 5, 2003 at Cedarville University; 30 minutes)
